Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
Not exactly the same but the Ai does seem a lot slower to drop handicaps not a problem if race bands are adjusted slightly. My flat team is at best below average however cant get into them lower handicaps this week at Ascot. Any chance the bands are getting adjusted for the hunters this week Stu. Can’t even get my donkeys in them that’s been failing to win all year in them.

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
I genuinely think the handicapping doesn't make a huge amount of difference and a lot of it is more the ability at certain tracks/grounds etc. Imhoteps Curse won a 3 runner race and went up 28lb! But then somehow, finished 2nd in it's next race off 88, and is now off 93 haha. This isn't a ploy, this is a horse that plodded around last year picked up a few lowly races and really hasn't improved from 3 to 4. A lot of horses do rack up sequence wins regardless of rises which just gives me a hunch that I don't think handicapping makes anywhere near a difference as it would in real life per say. I would agree with Matt that the average handicap does tend to be much higher, which is causing some very small fields at the lowest level, on both codes and it's probably worth raising each band by 5/10 at the lower level.

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
Not quite Ai dealing with the handicaps.
Its, as far as I am aware the in game SO that provides marks & I think everyone would agree that its not ideal for the league & the current schedule.
I think most of the handicaps 0-70,80 & 90 need raising by 10 on the flat, although those 70/80's do give the lesser trainers good opportunities to get wins.
Most of the mid trainers, are in no-mans land, high marks 90+ and they are no match for the better trainers in anything 0-100 and above, which most of the top boys can still get in and win off top weight.
That all being said, we knew what the handicapping was going to be this season and all were desperate to get a season in before 08, we are fortunate that Leon put together something that needs less work regarding volunteers and the poisoned chalice that is handicapping. I am pretty certain back in SO5/6 we tried using the in game handicapping and if I remember rightly the season did not finish due to it.
The Hunt is a little easier on marks & there is a wider scope of handicap races.
If Leon reads this and wants to up the hunters great, but I dont want to hassell him if still not 100%.
Id be happy to handicap if we cut stable sizes and the ridiculous 80 races a week, not hard to see why no-one will do it with anything up to 600+ flat horses to look at each week, quality rather then quantity is the way to go.

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
I'd agree with all of this, looking this week the fields aren't actually too bad for the chance of the 0-70 trainers to get an Ascot win without the presence of the 0-90 crew.
As mentioned the only option is to up the bands but it's really not the biggest issue in the world and we don't need to be piling more stress on Leon to change things!

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
Going back to manual handicapping would be a nightmare no one has the time to do the handicapping. We need more automation not less just with a few tweaks for next season.

If it's just the low handicap races abroad, can we change the tracks

I think i could make these changes on the league website to save Leon work if he agrees I also agree that 0-70 handicaps may need changing to 0-80 and the hunters to 110 for the second half of the season, also can't go back to manual handicapping; it's just too much work, but need someone to change obvious rating mistakes, I could do this too on the website, but I'm not sure if the ratings transfers to horse files

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
Looking at the flat horses this morning, I noticed that the game or is it AI now? hasn't been rating the horses higher after they perform well in English Group races. It seems that more work on handicapping needs to be done than initially thought.

Re: Handicap ratings aafter week 5
NH horse ratings are moving up after winning and performing well in English Group races, but only slightly by a few lbs- not enough. So the issue is with English Group races. Group races abroad seem fine, but not for low handicaps
Not sure when Leon can fix this problem though I think he's still really unwell, he's not even done is horse nominations this week
