There shouldn't be much here as Tom enforces all the handicap rules. Other things like trying to enter a maiden in a handicap get picked up by the race kit and the horses get scratched. If a horse can get in a race its normally fine except for the obvious stuff like trying to enter a maiden into a handicap or a non game bred in a game bred race. You can verify this by looking at handicap race and seeing what can be entered.

The reason these aren't checked is that thy very easy to spot in race kit. I will add these checks as well but this will come with the TOM revamp which will be after April

The distance spread is calculated on the horses best maiden run. If it finishes in a better position in a group race that will have no effect. Take care where you enter your horses as it can affect their whole season.

Also noticed loads of lowly rated horses in group races. Just a note your horse will get hammered by the handicapper even if it finishes last and derail your handicapping potential. Take heed.

That is a very good point.

Take note of your horses handicap mark it tell you how good your horse is.

Unless you have very good reasons for entering group races with low rated horses, then stick to the handicaps.

Please don't throw away good handicap marks thinking your horse is better than it is.

As Leon says running in Group races will greatly increase its rating and the horse will be finished for the year.

The problem with that is there's not enough h'caps for people this week, if u only have h'cappers then u don't have many choices this week. There's only 7 h'caps so what do u do with the other 13 or so horses.

I know I'm a broken record on this subject but we do need more h'caps on the flat, not everyone has the time to bred group horses. I think we haven't got enough races for the casual player. I think it's great we have 38 or 39 flat trainers but we need to keep everyone involved. I'm not having a go at anyone and perhaps it cant be done but we do need more 0-80 - 0-90 - 0-100 h'caps.

There are 16 races you can enter horses in not 7 as maidens are fine, needed in week 1 and 2 and horses need a run. That means only 4 that don't run. The schedule may have to be tweaked but its not as bad as you make it sound.

In week 3 18 races are handicaps more than half.

The current schedule allows everyone to get a winner

You need an even split handicaps and other races ( listed, group races etc ) as you don't want to punish people for having horses to good for handicaps

So half and half is about right, the first 2 weeks need the maidens. Its the week thereafter you need to look at

Speaking as a casual player - I am more than happy to 'rest' some of my horses and wait for handicap races.

I am currently going through my flat team working out a path for each horse.

I will post screenshots when finished might be useful.

First up:

Image

Only grip here is the duplication of race 20 and 30 in week 9.

Image

This one is fine if your horse is rated 90 or below. Races are thin on the ground for horses rated 91-100. Maybe add a race in week six or seven (0-110), and change race 20 in week 9 from the five furlong schedule to the six furlongs and make it 0-110.

Image

Personally I would have a 7f maiden for two year olds in week 1. Replace race number 26 "32 Red Maiden Stakes" 5f 3+ with one for 7f 2 year olds.
We don't need the 3+ race as other maidens that week cater for horses in this bracket. (Races 8, and 11).
Race 20 in week three could therefore become a 0-90 handicap.
In week five the Redcar maiden could be replaced with a 0-90 handicap again over 7f.

More to follow later......

The Maidens are the same as Group races. Take for instance race 25. It will have Steve's St Leger horse, my St Leger horse and at this moment a very good horse of Paul's. It will be as strong as any race run in week 2. If a horse rated 85 runs in a group race and finishes the same distance in either a group race or that maiden and he will get wacked either way.

Its too late to change things now something to discuss in the future and should be left for now

People as always will just have to manage there horses correctly horse management is key to success

also some horses may relocate if they dont make the top 16 in Meydan races i have 2 or 3 that have other options if they
dont get in

I wouldn't run my horse in 2 maidens as Ghost says, they would would just get thrashed again.

The schedule is excellent in my opinion it just needs tweaking, taking out races that appeal to the same horse and putting in new races.

Hopefully I will be able to highlight some of those opportunities above.

As Paul says it's too late for this year, but maybe next year some changes can be made.

I will have a look and throw out some suggestions - see what people think

But u are a old pro now so u know the score. :D

What I say is not trying to get me more winners but for what I think is best for the league. The smaller/ casual trainers don't have enough chances to win races in my opinion. I think the easiest think I could do is say nothing and think oh well I won 13 races so I'm ok and screw everyone else. That attitude is not in the best interest's of a Healthy League, u got to look at the bigger picture not just lookout for u self.

Perhaps I'm in the minority on this issue but unless u look at the whole picture u mighty just miss the picture altogether.

I agree with you I have always wanted the best for the league and players of all levels
I just think its the wrong time to go into it now everything is already in place for this season

I am all for more handicaps it's just where changes can be made without adding races to the schedule. There are few races that can be changed for next year.

Casual players 'for now' need to be realistic. Your horse isn't going to find a race every week. But yes I agree in what you are saying.

Let me do some research and get back to you in a week or so.
