Re: The Grand Finale - Preparations for the last SO6 League
So flat trials are done, team starting to take shape, minor improvement at 2yo but best I can tell like others I have flatlined 3yo+ my 5yo's are bang on the level of the last league. Do have 4yo's performing the same as my 5yo now which at least gives a weight allowance.
Jumpers look a lot better after some provisional trials, 3x G1 winner 'Kingdom of Titans' long way back on 2m hurdles with my flat bred US lot looking surprisingly good, have a few front running types also. But nothing to celebrate at 3m plus especially the chasers. Main trials to follow and then a mad rush to breed a national donkey.

Re: The Grand Finale - Preparations for the last SO6 League
Martin sorry to hear about your loss, my condolences!
My trials are mostly done too, had to trial from 1.400 horses... What I'm not sure, which 5 extra horses to get into the team, what do you do?
Thinking about: 3yo 7f, I don't own really good sprinters, quality starts at 7f/1m, didn't run 3yos below 1m last seasons. 3yo 1m1f, so much quality there in this range in my yard. 4yo+ 2m4f, the extra bred 3m4f hurdlers/chasers help to cover this distance.
Does the schedule stand or will it be changed and which distances will get more races?
Because of lost data I couldn't trial against all my last season horses, but I had a colt who placed at graded level who has no chance right now in my trials, so I have high hopes that my flat team improved a lot. Bred long distance jumpers from this stock, so maybe my jumpers will have better quality now too, but we will see, really lookinh forward to the start of the league. Only breeding 4m+ horses needs really patience, not sure if I can motivate myself, to play some more seasons.

Re: The Grand Finale - Preparations for the last SO6 League
Putting the finishing touches to my squad not done much over past few weeks been busy with the end of the flat season been working on some new sprinters and thats it really I cant remember the last time i bred a jumps horse I know for sure im going to struggle over the sticks and I will face a tough battle on the flat but they will be competitive at least.
in all honesty i have not really found anything that I would say vastly improves on last years squad my cut off point for breeding is this week as from next week I have to start work on producing 2 website yearbooks which will take up my time. all I really need to be ready is some older horses and some juveniles.
I wish you all all the best for the forthcoming season.

Re: The Grand Finale - Preparations for the last SO6 League
Well I've just finished my trails and even though I've not had the time to breed a lot of jumpers it seems to have been a waste of time any way, I can honestly say its the first time ever my horses have not improved apart from one or two distances . I've just got to pick now who goes into my team .
These two horses are coming back.

Re: The Grand Finale - Preparations for the last SO6 League
Just my 6yo+ chasers left to trial, some surprises 5yo at 3.4m chase aside I seem to be like John, stuck around the same level. Any time I have left will go to training a national horse. Thin to no existent at 4m over sticks. Both teams, depending on how others have fared, will be group/grade class I figure.

Just when I thought I'm done with my trials, I bred this 4m stallion, maybe I'll be able to improve my Grand National runners...
