having a bit of a mare is it worth exporting even when the potential bar goes down?

In the NH I export my 2m and 2m 4f horses at 5yo and they have full potential. My 3m horses are exported at 6\7yo and have about 92% potential and my longer distance horses are exported at 8\9yo and have about 85% potential.

I feel that even though the potential bar has gone down, the horse has gained experience as it grows older and seems to jump better.

Largely agree with Jim. I am less scientific though, I export all horses at 4yo if 2m and pot of 90%+ and then again all at 5 provided the pot is full, with exceptions made if 3.4m horse. At 6yo if they have made it this far I export without looking and keep to 10yo anything that has National breeding and is in the 3m+ range.

Bars are really not as important for jumpers, all my best jump lines are less impressive looking than my flat horses.

This may seem obvious but if you want to trial the same horse as a 6yo and the same horse as a 7yo, export the horse as a 6yo to ttf file and then import the horse into the same game and it usually has a "II" after its name. The AI treats it as a different horse. Export the two versions of the horse as a 6yo and a 7yo and you can race the original horse against the II version of the horse at different ages.

It is not an exact comparison, but I feel it is close enough to give you an idea of the horse at different ages.

What about geldings. Is there a difference if the horse is gelded? Most jump horses are gelded irl I think.

In the best part of 50 years watching racing and studying the history of it since it began I can think of no more than a handful of chasing entires. A few more hurdlers but very few chasers. However, as people keep pointing out this ain't the real world so chances are it makes no difference at all !

Very rare for me not to geld my jump horses, some 4yo’s may slip through. Not sure how much difference it makes.

I never geld my horses unless it has quirks just in case it works.
