I try to get a (smaler) stable for the league:
Q1: Is the best distance that a horse run the same in the league then in the game? What i mean, when a horse his best racing distance in the game is 6f, is that in the league the same?

Thanks

Might be just me but I have always found that mine seem to perform best at a little shorter in the league than in my game. For instance two seasons ago Come Taste The Band was a 10f horse but won his league races over 8 or 9. Russian Foxbat and Sunset Ride who have both won in both my online seasons have done so at 1 - 2f shorter than their best in game distance. Last season Arabella Hotel was uploaded as my 14f horse but her wins were at 12f. Several others performed better over slightly shorter trips too.

This just proves the idiosyncrasy of the game because I have regularly had the opposite Martin. A lot of my flat horses have performed better over distances in excess of their best game distances (especially 2 year olds). Maybe it's because I have a lot hold up horses and the league races are sometimes slowly run.
Mind you Juve, please be aware that in me and Martin (no disrespect) you are not taking advice from group 1 winning trainers, more Barney Curley than Michael Stoute

I have no complaint whatsoever about being called Barney Curley !!

I would say the game is a poor reference point as the quality your race against are easily beaten, so it is hard to say exactly what there best distance is until tested in like league conditions. Game is a useful yardstick but trial performance is all.

Personally think people get different outcomes because of the trialling in the CK. I found quite a lot of my sprinters got a furlong further in the league. The likelihood being that most the horses I were trialling in my CK were actually preferable to the further distance but I didn't notice

I find that sourcing all my league horses from my Australian game where the tracks are flat - that they tend to perform over slightly shorter distances than their preferred.

I think there are a few around. Personally I race everything that I think is within 2 or 3 furlongs of the distance against the horses that won in the league for me in the previous two seasons. Like this:

1. I race them in batches of 12 (2 or 3 past winners) in 5 races on Soft to Firm and anything that beats all the previous league winners goes through to the next round.

2. Split the qualifiers into equal divisions of between 8 and 12 and race them again on the 5 ground types. Winners and multiple placers in to final. Usually between 8 and 12 get through. Sometimes have to run a second round.

3. Race the final over the 5 types of going but at 4 different tracks plus 3 races on AW. Best performer over variable ground is Number 1 pick. Of course some horses qualify in more than one category so you can balance it out and sometimes the second or even third best horse can get in.

Main idea behind it is that as all have beaten last years best they should be quite good. Last years get thrown into the mix one year older and sometimes win out.

I have done 2yo at 5,6,7,8 & 10f. 3yo and 4yo+ at 5/6f combined, 8,10,12,14 and 16f. For 3yo I have done 8f and 12f colts and fillies separately.

This will give me 19 categories to select my 25 horses from.

Should be 19 category winners plus 6 wild card horses that I will pick taking into account:

category runners up/horses that have done well over multiple distances/horses that have done well over variable ground types/firm or soft ground specialists/horses with proven league form/distances which have most races in league.

I'm pretty sure PJR put something up somewhere about a points system he uses and I think Jim has given his methods in the posts at the top of the page.
