Howdy

I am considering entering some horses in the NHR races in the coming season.
I have only trained in the Flat game but I have read where other trainers have used their castoff Flat horses in the NHR.

Is there a distance conversion factor or can someone advise me on how the race distances compare between Flats and NHR?

Also is a NHR distance the same if it is a NHR chase or NHF?

Cheers

No easy way to do it I am afraid, I have seen everything from 6f to 2m flat horses covert to 2m jump horses. And then 1.3m horse go 3m. It is a horse by horse thing you will only know by dropping them into a uk or Irish jump/ combined game or by trialling.

I would add that jumpers have a much wider range than flat horses, adding a mile happens, adding 4f happens all the time.

If you go to the horse files in the CK you can press the button at the top to change between flat and jumps. Your flat horses distance indicators will now switch to jumps distances.

Last season I won a Grade/Group 2 steeplechase with a cast off flat horse. My first choice flat horses haven't come within cooee of winning a G2 flat race let alone a G3 or Listed.

All I can say is the Hunt works in strange ways and it is even stranger in chase races.

I tend to look at the red stamina bar as a first indicator of race distance in NH horses.

I find that there is no exact science to this. If you look at the 2nd and 3rd pictures, the horses could be a 2 mile or 2m 4f horse.

Hopefullty this will give an idea of where to start trialling flat horses over NH distances.

I don't find any difference in the stamina bar between hurdlers and chasers.
