Nice one Kev. Couldn't remember exactly where I had seen it. I remember that series now, it was based on the character from Odds Against and Whip Hand, Sid Halley, jockey who loses his hand. Some of the racing scenes were filmed at Warwick racecourse. Not sure if its ever been released on DVD or rerun on satellite.
Dick Francis used the character again for another novel and his son Felix also used him again recently although they have had to be a bit 'artistic' with timings as he only seems to age 2 years every book and the first one came out in 1965 I think and he was already pushing 30 !
From the final paragraph of the last one it would seem another is highly likely although I doubt he will be in his 80s
