Post 100 percent potential
Hi guys,

Finally got a bit of time and even though I’m not in love with it I thought I’d play SO7 and try and get something together to put in the league.

I was wondering which games you thought where best to reach 100 percent potential eg. USA, UK?

Thanks Yasmin

I found a couple of 3yo 100s, and actually started to get quite a few in the barn from a UK game. After the most recent update though, or the one before that, I can't remember. They all dropped to 97.5, that's the highest anything in my barn is now, and they all dropped instantly.

I had one 100 at 3yo in my Australia flat game. And I have had a few 100 at 8yo in my UK Jumps game. Not sure if a patch came along and changed it but I never bred the 100 on in the flat I get to about 95/97 tops now and my best jump horses rarely have 100, 90% seems to be just fine in trial. My trial winner ‘words that hurt’ topped out at about 85%. Captain Scott who came second was closer to 90. Belladona my flat star also only got to about 80/85%.

No one can see the bars so no one is breeding monsters the like of which we saw in so6. I would love to see how bad my best horses really are.

Combined game. Some 100% at 6,9 and 10. Majority that are still in my stable racing 100% at 7 and 8. Highest at 3 and 4 and 5 are 90. 80% for 2yo

My 3 mile plus chasers are all full potential but i've never had one in my US flat game, I wouldn't worry to much about going after that one bar.

Thanks guys,

I’m 10 seasons into a uk flat game (1 season auto season) I got an 85% potential 2yo filly who was a starter horse and I’ve managed to improve the potential to about 92/93 as a 2yo percent is this a good start? Then I can actually start breeding.

Also, what’s the best game to breed jumpers in?

Yasmin

I'd do what u want to do , some people like combined and others like me prefer playing a jumps only game.

I prefer the jumps only game as it is easier to manage generally, though as the horses tend to mature more realistically now, often not peaking until 7-9yo, with good ones running well up to 12yo it does mean you have a lot of horses to manage once your breeding is established.

The only disadvantage I have noted is that finding decent 4yo hurdlers is tough without a sprinkling of flat horses who mature younger and then mixing it all up in breeding. I will likely start a combined game at some point if I cannot solve the issue from either my flat game directly or hoping for some luck at the auctions. 40 seasons in so far, not even seen a horse that peaks before 7yo.

I've never had a 100% potential horse in my life but my horses did very well in the last league trial. 1 8th place, 1 7th place 1, 5th place, 1 4th place and one WON! The one that won was def max 85-90 potential (I don't use the increment bar). Oh and I'm playing UK game btw.

Agree my flat winner was only 75%, I'm happy with 75% potential for a 2YO. The horse in question only got to 100% potential at 7

Hi guys thanks for your advice.

So horses in the NH game mature later now?

I started a combined game in the hope of breeding some middle distance flat horses/stayers and some jump horses. Got a starter horse with the highest potential I’ve seen for a filly 91% at 2yo and she’s a middle distance filly so hopefully I can improve the potential.

Is it possible to get stallions in the combined game that improve potential?

Thanks
Yasmin

Yes they do, most of my are competitive in group races from 7 or 8. I race them at 4, give them a rest at 5 and do the novice races at 6 for the most part.

And as has been said don’t get too stuck on potential. I have just done another flat trial and two horses I retired to stud at 3yo because I did not think the potential was high enough have romped up in my 2yo trial. I have now missed them at 3 and will be taking them back out of the barn at 4. You cannot see the bars so you need to be a little more forgiving with what you keep.

Thanks for the advice.

Good to know for the jumpers. Do I put them in novice races and go that path first then open races?

The way I've been doing it in a jumps game is:

If they have a high potential and a low stamina run them at 3yo in either juvenile races or NHF races, best to go the latter first under normal circumstances but bear in mind your horse will be rated either way you go and will not be eligible for novice hurdle races next season. So I rarely take this path.
As 4yo's they must run in 2 novice hdl races to get a rating and the good ones will go for the money.
As 5yo's they will go handicapping at least.
As 6yo's they have to go novice chasing and have 2 runs to gain a handicap mark.
After that and to some points before depends on how they perform in game and in the ck.
May look extreme but it's the way I play, no need to follow my gameplan and maybe you have a better way?
