I was looking at what I would do with my St Leger horses next season as 4yo's and there doesn't appear to be much incentive to keep them in training unless they stay 2m.
I realise 14 furlongs is unfashionable in real life but I noticed that with some small changes to the schedule you could make it better for older horses at that distance.
Would the scheduler consider adding the the Curragh Cup, a Grade 2 over 14 furlongs in June/July? It could replace the Welsh St Leger in Week 5. The purse is around £100,000.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curragh_CupThe Welsh St Leger could be moved to week 2.
Would the scheduler consider adding the Prix Royal-Oak?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prix_Royal-OakThe race is held over 15 furlongs at the end of October and could slot in to Week 12. It could replace the Canadian International or the 0-100 in week 12 over 12f, as there is already the breeders cup turf and Vulcain Stakes.
The purse for the Prix Royal-Oak is £350,000 on S07.
You could make the Irish St Leger in week 10 solely for the older horses 4+, as there is the English St Leger that week for 3 year olds.
The 14 furlong John Smith's Silver Cup race 27 in Week 7 is now a Group 3 open to horses aged four years or older, it changed from a handicap in 2018. There is already three handicaps, at 13f, 14f, 15f that week so making it a group race would make sense. The purse is around £60,000.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Smit ... Cup_StakesYou could also consider adding a 14 furlong listed race or a 0-110 handicap of some sort somewhere in week 13.
