Post Flat Handicap Ratings - Week 1
All handicap ratings for the flat have been done and processed in TOM.

Released at 5pm tomorrow I believe.

Basically I wanted to have the ratings range from 100 to 60.

Due to the large fields I have given all maiden winners ratings of 100.
If you have finished last your horse will be rated 60.
If your horse finished in the middle it will be rated somewhere close to 80 as a starting point.

Others are somewhere in between.

Naturally with the big fields some horses will be well in when the handicaps start - due to wide draws and bunching.

Things should settle down after week three.

Steve

PS:

Think very very carefully before your throw away a good handicap mark in search of group race glory. It could ruin your horses chance of winning.

I feel like Dandy Nicholls constantly moaning about his horses being raised too much; but 12lb rise for a never threatening 9th?! I know you've worked on a standardised method though. I just hope you've underestimated him

Even though my initial estimation was struggle to win off 75

Ah well, all part of the fun! I'll have to place them well. Thanks for doing the handicapping Steve.

I think all mine are on "workable" marks, Id like to think that one, if not two, are well in!

Thanks for doing this and it will be very interesting to see the handicaps, which for me are essential!!!

Hi,

Your horse hasn't been raised.

All horses started without a rating (the 75 was just a random figure put in by the race secretary) your horse obtained a rating of 87 because it finished in the top half of the race. Where handicap marks ranged from 100 down to 60.

The mid race figure is 80.

Oh right. I thought we all just started on a base mark of 75 and worked from there, but this is probably due to how the game was ran i.e. handicap marks.

I'll leave you red faced with a big handicap coup soon enough  (I wish)
