Post League Team Selection Criteria
Sorry if this has been covered before.

I'm now got my 2nd generation home-breeds coming through and these look something special.

I'm trying to prepare my 'team' for the league. How many horses do I need at each distance? Do I need a male and female, 2yo, 3yo, 4yo etc.

What's the criteria before I start to bin my old weaker types?

Kind regards,

Lee

My biggest piece of advice is to have a balanced stable. That means, 2yo, 3yo and 4yo+ horses and then one or two horses at each distance. Three at an absolute stretch. Keep a few of each sex and then look at the schedule to decide if its worthwhile having colts+fillies to run at the same distance. It wont be for handicaps.

So you might have:

2yo's to run at 5,6,7,8 and 10f.

3yo's to run at 5,6 and 7f then milers, 1m2,1m4,1m6,2m,2m4. Maybe a 2m2 horse and the same with 4yo's

You will have more winners with a balanced stable rather than having 5 horses which want a mile even though they might be your best horses. I wont have any 7f horses though and you dont have to have every distance.

It is entirely your decision but there are rules about placement in handicap races, hopefully Rich will clarify these rules shortly.

Another word of advice aim low in the league. Most newbies think they have world beaters and have a big shock when they place there horses in group company.

Not saying you wont have good horses, but don't ruin your chance of winners with aiming to high.

This is directed at the UKRA league. For the NH league anything can happen  well just about..

Thanks for the advice, though I only ever aim high in life. No point in entering if you believe you have no chance of doing well.

That's just my outlook on life :-)

Welcome to the league, to answer your question YOU choose where they go and you can enter them wherever you like. Hopefully you will have some G1 beasts but you'll be coming up against ridiculously good horses  My advice is generally, whatever your best horse is right now...get something 5L better
