Post Breeders Cup 2014
This is the week. I will offer some thoughts/picks for each race as I finish doping each race. Feel free to drop some knowledge of your own and good luck.

Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf

Free Past Performances link for the race...

http://www.brisnet.com/php/bw_pdf_viewer.php?track=SA&race=6&param1=2015&param2=3900&param3=1002972

Lots of runners here and seemingly void of any real grade 1 talent IMO. Looks like a grade 2 race to me with these horses. Speed rules at Santa Anita especially at a mile on the turf. A good amount of speed in the race and they are all on the inside. I am expecting a fast pace to set it up for a closer - but who? I would say War Envoy from the pjrhoades barn would be a cinch here but it appears he has a nasty habit of settling for minor checks. Still a herd animal? Luck Of The Kitten has the best front running jockey in the world going a mile on the turf. Has a win at the track/distance and will try to lead every step. Startup Nation had two huge rallies to win his first two starts. I'm thinking the last race in the Pilgrim was a prep for this race. Has Joel Rosario on board and he knows this track as well as any jock here.

Startup Nation - Rallies past War Envoy for the win - 11th

War Envoy - Takes the lead in stretch and hangs again? - 12th

Daddy D.T. - Bests the rest - 3rd

Another sub-par race in terms of talent. It's last years winner Goldencents versus the others. Goldencents looks hard to beat but I will try. Should have won his last start in a field of 5. Has only won 2 starts in his last ten. Tapiture knocking heads with the top 3yo's this year and doing okay. Took a short break and came back with 2 nice wins with new jockey Rosie Napravnik getting him to rally from farther off than he has in the past. Hoping Rosie is the key here. Fed Biz rarely wins but always gets a check. The fast pace should hinder his chances.

Tapiture - Rallies hard to just get up for Rosie - 2nd

Goldencents - Will be hard to beat - 1st

Fed Biz - Gets another check - 7th

Juvenile Filly Turf

This race is a little better talent wise. Not a lot of speed here and I will go with a speed type. Isabella Sings jumps off the paper to me. Debuted in a 6 furlong sprint leading all the way. Came back in the Natalma Stakes and made a nice rally only to just miss. Will probably rate just off a slow pace here. I like this one a lot. Osaila is the one to beat. Partisan Politics will have it tough on the rail but can get up for a share.

Isabella Sings - Expecting a big performance here - 12th

Osaila - I keep going against the euros in these juvenile turf races and surely I will get burned again? - 3rd

Partisan Politics - Will be there - 6th

My best tip of day 1 is Lady Eli in the juvenile fillies turf.

She's the best of the US horses and has been working well, she looked very good in her last race.

In the mile i'll probably be backing Vicars in Trouble EW, Rosie picked Tapiture instead of Trouble but hopefully Vicars will get a easy lead and hold on in the end.

I've not decided yet in the juvenile but it will be either Imperia, improving fast and a outstanding pedigree or Startup Nation who is well over priced. He was slightly disappointing in his last race but the time before was mighty impressive and if he comes back to that form will go very close.

I hope Close Hatches returns to her form because she's the best horse in the ladies classic.

Breeders Cup Distaff

http://www.brisnet.com/php/bw_pdf_viewer.php?track=SA&race=9&param1=5850&param2=2015&param3=1504458

This is a tough race. Judging by breeding and past races most of these in here will have trouble getting the distance. Going by current form Bella Gallantey and Don't Tell Sophia are the ones to beat. I am not a fan of trainer Rudy Rodriquez and his miraculous ability to turn mediocre horses into superstars (read - cheater). I will bet that the juice fails on the biggest stage. Don't Tell Sophia is running lights out at the top of her game but 1 1/8 may be pushing it. Iotapa has the best breeding as far as getting the distance. She hasn't run many of her races going long which is surprising. Her last race at a 1 1/8 was a spectacular 10 length romp in the Vanity right here at Santa Anita. It appears they are prepping to run big in this spot. Untapable looks to me that she may have encountered a injury of some sort when she won the Mother Goose and hasn't looked the same since. Close Hatches is good but if you look at her form going 1 1/8 you will see she almost always chokes in the final yards.

Iotapa - Her day today? - 3rd

Don't Tell Sophia - Scares me big time. The one to beat - 2nd

Tiz Midnight - Improving - 6th

My day 1 picks are

Dirt Mile - Goldencents
Distaff - Tiz Midnight
Juv Turf - Commemorative
Juv Fillies Turf - Lady Eli

As Ghostzapper my best bet and the only one I'll be having reasonable amounts on will be Lady Eli, think she could be quite classy.

This here is a tough race. I'm expecting a solid pace to takes its toll on a lot of these (unless a ridiculous speed bias is in place). Feathered from the rail will be the deciding factor IMO. If she sets an easy pace on the rail then its all over. Her stablemate Angela Renee looks tough also but looks beatable to me. Conquest Eclipse looks like a beast. Another who in first start led wire to wire in a sprint race. Her last race (3rd start) she rallied nicely in a route. My kind of horse. Top Decile looks to have a huge future but today's distance may be too long. Wonder Gal looks like a beast too and may just beat all of the above.

Conquest Eclipse - Rallies to get win - 7th

Wonder Gal - Outside post a worry - 3rd

Angela Renee - Right there - 10th

Thanks Mj. I'm game.

Day 2

Juv Fillies: Top Decile, EW shot
Filly & Mare Turf: Stephaine's Kitten, comes late needs luck in running.
Filly & Mare Sprint: Artemis Agrotera, loves 7 furlongs and if shes at her best will be hard to beat.
Turf Sprint: No Nay Never, the distance might be a problem
Juvenile: Carpe Diem, ran a monster last time and got his dads looks hopefully his engine. NAP
Turf: Telescope, Stoute know's what it takes to get one ready.
Sprint: Indianapolis, improving 3yo and a nice price but unknown in this company.
Mile: Toranado, way the best.
Classic: Shared Belief, best horse in the race by a long way but I was worried about how he ran last time. This race is going to be fast and I think V E Day could come late.

This race has very little pace in it. Dayatthespa should enjoy and easy lead but she never goes this long. Stephanie's Kitten has just enough speed to rate close and is rounding into shape at the right time. Just The Judge also is rounding into shape. Looks like this race has been the target all year long. Abaco is at peak form for her career at 6yo. I fear her but the inside post and lack of pace will hinder her.

Stephanie's Kitten - Wins a close one - 2nd

Just The Judge - Slow pace helps - 3rd

Dayatthespa - Leads almost all the way - 1st

This race should be exciting although unusually short on entries for the F&M sprint. Looks to me like Leigh Court is about to stamp herself as a top tier horse. Showing almost exclusively speed in all her previous starts she rated kindly and easily beat the field in the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes last start at Keeneland in only her 2nd start of 2014. Speed first start back - Rally 2nd start. Hard to beat that angle. Artemis Agrotera had a nice change of tactics to win last out. The one to beat. Sweet Reason loves 7 furlongs but I can't help but think she is not the freak she was at 2. Thankyou Marylou is a game type. May surprise.

Leigh Court - Expecting a big performance - 5th

Artemis Agrotera - Damn good for a New York bred - 7th

Sweet Reason - Late on the scene - 8th

Stared at this one for a while. Quite a contentious race. The key as usual here is the about 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill Santa Anita turf course. Familiarity with these odd conditions plays to the favor of those who have run it before. I will take Ambitious Brew with jockey Mike Smith aboard. Mike has won the last two runnings of this race at these exact conditions. Ambitious Brew has had a perfect prep for this and surely will put in a good performance - right? Has won 3 of 4 starts with a 2nd at these exact conditions. Home Run Kitten beat Ambitious Brew last out with a powerful rally. Joe Talamo had his choice of mounts and took this one. Reneesgotzip has to gun it from the rail and will be very hard to beat. Undrafted will be running on late.

Ambitious Brew - Mike Smith wins his third turf sprint in a row? - 7th

Home Run Kitten - Powerful race last out - 11th

Reneesgotzip - Two years ago - 3rd. Last year - 2nd. This year - 1st? - 9th
