I hope he does but I don't care if his leg falls off as long as he wins I got 11/2 for him, also got a double with Pharaoh & the Pacman in a silly £3 doulbe

I was going to back him at 10-1   And it's live on ATR :D

Kentucky Oaks - I really like the looks of Angela Renee in the Oaks. It appears they are gearing her up for this very spot by the looks of her last two races. After disappointing in the Breeders Cup and the Demoiselle they gave her a three month freshening. She came back in the Rachel Alexander Stakes with blinkers off and had a nice rally in what looks like merely an easy tune up race. A little over a month later she is back in the Ashland where she contests a hot pace from the start and sticks on nicely at the end. The Ashland was her wake up call for her to run big next out - The Oaks.

I'll be cheering on the Larry Jones fillies, I always want him to win this race after Eight Belles died in the derby.

can't wait for this on Saturday night. Just had my first look at the main trial races and wow i get all the hype about American Pharaoh now, looks like a relentless galloper. I like Dortmund as well, has a nice long stride but don't think he'll get his way out in front. Think El Kabeir will run well at a price having looked at his prep race, closing late on off a slow pace. My heart wants Mubtaahij to win for De Kock and South Africa would be a brilliant story. Can't wait!

I'm A Chatterbox is the one to beat for sure. I'm always amazed at Larry Jones' ability with 3yo fillies. Year after year he has these 3yo filly monsters. He has some knowledge about them and how to train them that no other trainers seem to have.

Well I just doped the entire Kentucky Derby field with the exception of the also eligible's and am leaning toward one for now. Free Racing Form past performances for the Derby can be found here - http://www.drf.com/race-of-the-day

Frosted

Image

Most of my confidence in him comes from his last race which was an outstanding effort - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zvMx12k18A

If you look at all of his races before the Wood win you'll see he almost always showed good speed and then hangs or fades at the wire. Last out in the Wood he relaxed off the lead the farthest he's ever been in any of his previous races. He rallied with very little urging four deep on the turn into a slow pace. Took command in the stretch and held strongly with the jockey not asking much from him.

One thing sticks out to me as a reason for this outstanding effort - Joel Rosario. This was the first time Joel Rosario has ridden Frosted and I am banking that these two get along very well together.

Watch the video of the Wood and notice how easily he won.

Kentucky Oaks:
-This race really doesn't have one dominating horse like last years Oaks. A very well balanced field, the Kentucky Oaks is probably a little harder to find a clear cut winner than in the Derby. I'm leaning on Puca. She had a nice runner-up finish in the Gazelle and I think this daughter of Big Brown will benefit from moving to Churchill Downs. I haven't like how either Aqueduct or Gulfstream Park (the two tracks she prepped at) played this year, much slower than usual and just not showing anything to help a horse. Condo Commando is a very strong horse but how much value can the Aqueduct form be given. Slow wins. I would rather take the runner up giving a better effort that Condo Commando.

Kentucky Derby:
-As for the Run for the Roses, before the post position draw, Mubtaahij was my stand-out pick. He just has so much talent, knows how to run long (and seems to be one of may 4 horses that wants to run longer than they've been), and has a fantastic turn of foot. Although his time for the UAE Derby may seem slow, it was better when compared to the average speed for that distance at Meydan than many US Preps, including the Blue Grass, Louisiana Derby, Santa Anita Derby, and Florida Derby, just to name a few. And although the 6 post will help him stalk the pace, my second choice before the draw moves into the top spot. Firing Line had an outstanding Sunland Derby (the fastest prep when compared to the track) and a great runner up effort to Dortmund two trips ago. Word around the Callaghan barn is that they will sit him a bit off the pace instead of sending him forward, hopefully allowing him to stay longer. He really benefits from the 10 post and was the winner of the post position draw. If he is able to stay back early and make his move right off the far turn, watch out.

The rest of my Derby/Oaks picks and tickets will be available on my blog (Thursday for Oaks, Friday for Derby). Also, for 2000 Guineas, like Elm Park as my pick.

Unless he's grown up after that last race I think he's looked a dog and softer than butter. I don't think he's man enough. I would throw out that last race because I think El Kabeir bounced( had a few hard races) and he beat a very average horse.

The only thing missing from the derby is Khozan, hopefully he'll get back to the track at a later date.

I think the top 3 will be

1. American Pharoah
2. Carpe Diem
3. Firing Line

That's what makes his last race so impressive. He has been choking or hanging in all of his races then last out he relaxes perfectly and rallies 4 wide with no urging and wins professionally. I think he has found his whole card the race before the Derby and will run even better in the Derby. El Kabeir looks to have been prepping for the Derby in the Wood and wasn't asked to show his all.
