Post Re: Dodgepots
The problem with US Army Ranger is he was talked up to the hilt last year and now he is struggling to justify it. He is a good colt, but he isn't as good as we were lead to believe.

This happens with a lot of youngsters, particularly those based at Ballydoyle, who win a maiden on debut or second time out and are then immediately hyped up as next years Classic winner; either by those connected to them (who wish to sell them to breeders once they have retired) or by the fans. It is unfair because it then results in people being highly critical of them and calling them names.

It's the main reason why on the Juddmonte Farms - FanPage I always play down a colt or filly who make a successful winning debut or if they win a maiden contest impressively - I don't want people to put too much pressure on the individual.

Ranger was talked up by Aidan but he always said he would be better at 4 something he got
wrong but he wont be the last to get a horse completely wrong i remeber John Gosden last
year or 2 years ago saying an unraced 3YO was the best he had seen bombed on derbut I
did not see him again and I cant remember his name there was huge hype around him though

Anyway back to ranger he was the picture boy of the Derby Ballydoyle Press day and at the end of the day
he was Aidan's best Derby horse at the time & he proved it he was not far off being a Derby winner after all.

I'm all for let the horse do the talking on the track I see nothing wrong with getting excited when you
see something win smartly on debut.

I doubt any horse is losing any sleep on what people say about them.
Unless they have completely evolved on a telepathic level.

You'll need to give me more because I can't think who you are talking about there. The only one who springs to mind is the War Front colt who won on debut at 2 and then failed to train on.

Me neither, but it's when horse's are pigeonholed as being the next best thing and then they fail to live up to the hype. I see it all the time. People slag and call them various derogatory names because they have been over hyped after winning a five runner maiden. Surely this isn't something you want to see happen?

Ya i cant stand that either its mainly pocket talkers who do not care one bit about the horse
or in fact any horse its all about making a few quid.

Yes I think you are right it was a War Front all I remember there was serious hype around it
even before John said what he said.

It can't be Faydhan as I haven't found a single thing were John Gosden even suggested he was the best he has ever seen.

Kingman got several Group 1 winners and Group 1 winning producers in his first crop so time will tell how well he does.

I see Coolmore have sent a good 20 mares to be covered by War Front again this year. Good looking stock and precocious types I'll grant you; but why he commands such a high fee and why his offspring are so sought after I will never understand. I don't see him lasting in the long term. Uncle Mo is the better option of the two.

It will be the same thing, I think, when Arrogate retires at the end of the year. Although, unlike Coolmore, I don't think Juddmonte will send him everything they have like the former have done with War Front. I believe most of the mares Juddmonte will send to Arrogate will be dirt runners or those with dirt pedigrees.

Watching his workouts at Santa Anita recently, Arrogate already looks like a stallion. He has filled out again since Dubai. I love watching him work; he always points his toe and finishes strongly. He just loves to gallop.

AP has been sent some very nice mares too not all to War Front also Fastnet Rock has been sent some nice Galileo's like Ballydoyle
also several have gone to Japan to Deep Impact.

Arrogate is a fine fine horse and stallion prospect

I think the gosden horse you are talking about was a highclere horse whose name completely eludes me, I'm pretty sure it began with an s, but he was very highly thought of and never made much impression on the track.
