This is exactly my point. Why do we need US Army Ranger to be standing at stud? Isn't there enough Galileo blood out there as it is?

I am a big advocate of seeing less stallions at stud (I've even spoken to Nancy Sexton (Racing Post) in depth about this subject). There are too many moderate horses and mares being bred which results in moderate racehorses. There is not enough room to accommodate all of them which can result in the abandonment and slaughter of some.

I was dismayed when hearing Morpheus and Proconsul, both sons of Kind, where to stand at stud in the UK. Why? What is the point? Neither had any great success on the racetrack so the likelihood is their offspring won't be overly talented; I wonder where they will end up when the owner has had enough?

The stallion business is all about making money, which is why people are desperate to stand a Galileo, but for once I wish people would put the welfare of these beautiful animals first. I know I'm in a minority, but that is my opinion.

As I believe I have mentioned before - not many 3yo's run in the race but the classy ones that do, do run well.
I'm not as clued into north/south ages - what I do know is all Australian horses have a birthday on August 1.....hence the reason why not many Aussie 3yo's run (in the Cup) but if your Northern horses are forward in age then don't write off Rekindling - this could be an astute move by the owners/trainer to get a classy young stayer into a $6 million race carrying sweet FA!
If they pull this off - this could expose the Achilles Heel of the Melbourne Cup for European horses.

And don't be surprised it gets sold to Lloyd Williams if it wins or finishes close up.
