One for you Doug

another heavyweight son of Galileo SIR JOHN LAVERY has arrived in Australia he has just been registered with RAS
no owner details through yet but be amazed if it is not the Williams family wonderful addition for whoever it may be.
They thought alot of him this time last year and was the leading contender for the Derby.

He is a listed winner and G2 placed but should have achieved more should do really well there.

Also Winter Roly Poly Seventh Heaven all retired.

Rhodes what do you make of Frankel's stud career so far?, I think he's been very good and get's a lot of maiden winners at 7f/1m, even recently getting a 2 time hurdle winner, Do you think he will become a better stallion like his father in time?

Galileo got 3 classic winners in his first crop and got nowhere near the quality Frankel got in his first book
for me its been an ok start but has not set the world on fire i know a few people in the breeding game have
been a little disappointed but its early days

Anyone who has been disappointed with the start Frankel has made at stud obviously don't know much about breeding. You can't expect every stallion to suddenly start producing Classic winners left, right and centre in their first few crops. It takes time to develop a stallion and to work out the sort of mares who suit him. Not every stallion and mare are compatible. To be comparing Frankel with Galileo is pointless.

So far Frankel has sired two individual Group 1 winners, as well as three other Group 1 performers, from his first two crops. He has also sired several others who have either won or been placed at Group level. Given the expectations he has to deal with, I would say that he has made an excellent start to life at stud. Will he be as successful as his sire? Highly unlikely. Will he be an important sire in the years and decades to come? On the evidence we have so far, there is a good chance of that.

Frankel got an incredible first and second book of mares packed full of quality and rightly so.

I can understand those being a little disappointed with a return of 1 European G1 winner and 1 Japanese G1 winner
from around 300 coverings. That is not my opinion but i can understand those who do have that opinion.

I'm sure no one will be giving up on Frankel as a sire but he needs to establish himself as its a cut throat business
it really is tough out there.

I have only really looked at the Ballydoyle Frankels and he seems to be producing stayers Nelson & Rostropovich
look leger types San Remo finished his 3yo career off running over 2 miles.

This began to happen to Galileo around about 2013/14 and Coolmore invested heavily in sprinting mares which has
begun to pay dividends Red Evie Laddies Poker Two Meow to mention a few.

He has established himself. He is a promising young sire who we know can produce Group race performers. He has only had two crops so far. Expecting him to have done much more would be folly. The mares that were sent to him are irrelevant; Empire Maker got an incredibly book of mares in his first few years at stud but it wasn't until much time had past that he was fully appreciated as a talented stallion.

The problem with Frankel will always be what he achieved on the racecourse. He was a phenomenon, but that doesn't mean his progeny will be. He might only be capable of producing one Group 1 winner a year - but what is wrong with that? Not every stallion sires a Group 1 winner year in, year out.

Personally, I would like to see him being sent more speed-based mares. Too many of his runners look one-paced to me. Which isn't surprising as his 2nd and 3rd dams, Rainbow Lake and Rockfest, were all about stamina. Kind very much took after Danehill.

I'm looking forward to visiting him at home in a months time. His 2yo half-sister by Kingman, called Clerisy, has just gone into training.
