No Melbourne Cup defence for Rekindling.

Just makes the decision to keep him over there even more baffling considering the standard of staying races over there. Could easily have competed for Joseph till Ascot seeing if he was good enough then headed back to Aus if he struggled.

I said the same to red who runs joseph's site im baffled why in this case he was kept in Aus
could have stayed here gone for the gold cup and the 2 x 2m g1 races and the British Long Distance Cup
even the Irish leger running him in G1 races over 10 furlongs is crazy he will get totally out paced

Considering he needed every yard of two miles, I can't understand why they wouldn't go for the staying races in Europe as Paul says. Crazy decision.

Head scratcher for me as well.
He wont stand a chance in the Cox Plate or really any Aussie G1 over 2000m/10f.
Best chances will be over 2400m/12f.
Unless they know something that we don't. I think Lloyd William's has stuffed Rekindling's career up.

I Know the horse well he ran ok at 10 furlongs at the begining of his 3 year old career
Won the Ballysax with MG1W capri in behind but by the time the Dante came around
he already needed further

Held up in touch, headway well over 2f out, ridden to chase leaders well over 1f out, driven
Outpaced plugged on
.

Never ran under 12 furlongs again finished well in the St Leger at 14 and a half furlongs and look what is
said in the report

Held up, pushed along and some headway over 2f out, ridden over 1f out, stayed on well, went 4th final 50yds

Meaning that was even on the short side for him.

Now a fully blown 4 year old he could have been the perfect Ascot Gold Cup horse.

No Doubt Latrobe will be in the hands of Liam Howley by November too.

I'm not even sure if we have any G1s that are 13f or more?
