Post PRIX DE L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE
Seems about the right time to get the early Arc debate going. Will Camleot run? If he does run, is there anything in the field to beat him? Where is the value just now? Who has no chance, ie Nathanial, St Nic and Sea Moon ?

The two I like just now are serious horses but are not guaranteed to turn up, one is the unbeaten German colt Novellist 25/1 who should be running away with the German Derby on Sunday, I think he looks really good and outside of Camelot, there dosent appear to be many top class 3yo 1m4 colts. The other one that I like is the Japanese champion Orfevre 16/1, won the triple crown over there last year and came back to form last time after two dissappointing runs, he looks very good and if he turned up on the day, id be happy with 16/1 about him.

Valiyra looks pretty solid for the home team and you couldnt write Danedream off just yet, but I cant be having St Nic, Nathanial or Sea Moon.

Thoughts?

If he runs Orfevre will absolutely destroy them, the first triple crown winner since Deep Impact in 2005 he has taken a while to return to form after two absolutely brutal rides by Kenichi Ikezoe (have to be seen to be believed).

His comeback run in the Hanshin Daishoten was incredible, he was up against Group performers, including the classy Hiruno D'Amour and completely lost his position on the bend (hit otherside of track), dropped back to rear, rallied past the whole field and almost got up - a truly remarkable feat! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRh2DaAei5k

His next run in the Tenno Sho Spring he was fitted with first time blinkers (probably on recommendation of jockey after previous run) but Ikezoe yet again gave him a disgusting ride. Held up so far back he wouldn't of reached the front with a jetpack applied in the time he asked, let alone coming 20 wide into the straight - he has given him two terrible rides so far this year. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmyxPQ5oO6U

His most recent run was a win in the Takarzuka Kinen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBSDkXD1Fkw) and Ikezoe finally made ammends, after talk during the week prior that he wouldn't retain his ride on the Japan flying machine.

Watch his Kikuka Sho win here (final leg of Triple Crown over 1m7f): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLAPnNAce6E

His win in the Tokyo Yushun (Japenese Derby) was something else, literally coming from another country to win, and drew clear of the field with second placed Win Variation.

His win to round of 2011 in the Arima Kinen was special (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C3MGntF3_A). Being a younger horse to beat Eishin Flash, Buena Vista, Tosen Jordan, Hiruno D'Amour, Victoire Pisa and Rulership amongst others is a serious feat.

I genuinely think he is the best middle distance horse in the world, and his name is French for 'goldsmith'. I will be loading my bullion onto him for the Arc de Triomphe, but need to allow for the clown on top.

I have followed Orfevre but there isn't a chance in hell I would back it with Ikezoe on top.

The first race this season would probably have seen him banned for 6 months in the UK. Extremely dodgy.

WOW, I had read he was given two poor rides but I had no idea to what extent, that first one is incredible, he pulled the horse up as if it had broke down, let the whole field pass him, then the horse manages to go back on the bridle and go by them again only to be beaten half a length under soft hands and heels riding.

All I can say is the horse did look to be running away with him a bit out in front but theres taking a tug and then there is pulling a horse up. Horse must have some engine.

Are ye serious? I dont know how good or bad a jock this fellow is but its plain for anyone to see that the horse cocked his jaw and ran of the bend, considering how light the Japanese jockeys are he had no chance!

Christophe Soumillion has been booked for the ride on Orfevre in the Arc. I also hear that he will go for an Arc trial race at Longchamp before the big race itself.

Orfevre and Waldpark would be my picks e.w at this stage

Doubt Camelot will go for the arc- looking at the moment like he will race on as a 4 year old - his current race record isn't geared towards breeders and to retire him this year would mean competing with st nic, so I hope they send him to the champion for his final start of the season and target the arc next year.

Have they pulled the greatest stroke off all time? Using the Leger as a prep for the Arc while at the same time giving the impression to breeders that he dosent stay and getting on at fancy exchange prices before pulling a New Approach style last minute mistake of leaving him in and deciding that they might as well run now and he bolts up and retires "one of the greats, just didnt stay in the Leger, still managed to win an Arc a few weeks later"?

Surely Not

I have already bet Danedream at 28 on Betfair and Saonois at 12.5 also on Betfair but only for small money.

I bet Danedream in the KG & QE at Ascot and bet him in the Arc just in case he won the KG, and Saonois I only bet recently after he won the Prix Niel and no less than Andre Fabre said afterwards

“When he won the Prix du Jockey Club he showed that he had an
excellent turn of foot but many did not believe it. He is a very good horse.”

The owner has turned down several large offers for the horse because he wants to have a decent horse in the Arc.

It's always a difficult race to win and sometimes down to luck in running but it's always worth a flutter.
