Nearly 40 years ago this race was run and still in my opinion it's the greatest ever, containing Australia's greatest ever horse and almost one of the best winning handicap performances ever.

Well to come to England, home of jumps racing, and race in the worlds hardest race over more than double his optimum distance under a monster weight just failing to hold off the greatest course specialist ever with over a stone less than him under what seemed like a suicidal ride, I would say that is more than what any other Aussie horse has achieved. They may have achieved a lot, but most horses struggle in the national, let alone a 2m specialist with 12st5 on his back against red rum.
