Races for 2 year olds ...
I notice that up to now, whenever I get a two year old horse in the flat mode, it usually has a trip of 2 miles against it's name. I have also noticed that in the game there seem to be only races of a distance of the minimum 5 furlongs for them. Am I correct in assuming that I should run them over the minimum distance and also sparingly for the first season?

At the start of the season you will only find 5 furlong for 2 year olds but as the season goes on, the available distances for juveniles will gradually get longer. Eventually, towards the end of the season there should be 1m2f races available.
Its entirely up to you if you want to run a 2yo that has a distance preference of 2 miles over a sprint distance, as its almost certainly going to be totally outpaced and get well beaten most of the time. The only benefit from doing this is that the horse will go get a very low handicap mark.
Personally, I dont race staying horses until they are three.
Hope this helps you.

I'm always tempted to run long distance 2YOs but don't any more - I found that if you put them in anything less than a 1m race they had a tendency to get injured as they're clearly way out of their depth. I usually wait til they're 3 and pick up a maiden early on and get them going from there.

I usually add a few 1 mile 4 furlong races for 2 year olds to the showcases but I never race a 2 mile horse as a 2 year old.
