Let's try to start an empire
I've done a thread like this for SO6 and now is the time to do it for SO7. I'll try to get a nice bankroll while working with just one horse. First off I'll be playing a US game using my modded schedule based on the mid-atlantic circuit. Lots of major stakes from around the world included in it. I'm playing on easy which simply gives you 5 horses to start with. Looking at the horses I was dealt I have decided to sell them all and then upgrade the stable with the racing essentials. The breeding upgrades aren't needed right now. I'll save some money to use on what will hopefully be a wise auction purchase. After the auction I had $2.9 million. After upgrades I now have $1.8 million. Let's go to the auctions. Every end of day and all the special auctions. Specifically I'll be looking for a lightly race prospect that I can raise up through the ranks.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
This is a bit similar to my Start It test save - one horse bought within a month of game start via auction and he's won 25 Grade 1 wins by age 6, and amassed over $52m too. Even for just a test save it's been amazing to see him run and dominate to the point where after selling the original horses and the other 2 bought in the same auction, I have only had this single stallion for 4 years now. It does make things interesting just building on the back of a single horse.
Good luck with this, I'll be watching with interest!

Re: Let's try to start an empire
Thank's Chris. I can't see getting a 25 time G1 winner. That's the proverbial needle in the haystack. Probably not the horse to lead me to glory but his form is interesting and he only cost 110k. 1. I didn't feel like going to too many auctions. I'm trying to fill this thread quickly. 2. His form - First race ran green. Room for improvement. 2nd start had trouble and had the positive stayed on well comment. 3rd start suggests he has more to offer. The "just got up" hints at a will to win. The minus winning race times really peak my interest. Look for these fast races when you're looking to buy horses at auction. They usually will run well for you. His stats are pretty sorry but who knows - he may have that hidden high talent stat.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
I'm a manual trainer so the first thing to do is rest the horse until its fitness is right. I go by 7 day increments and Mr. Wolf took 35 days to get it's fitness back. During this time of no training I always set the special training to what the horse needs improving in. The Wolfman has poor agility - I set the special training to agility. It didn't improve yet but it should with continued focus on it. After the 35 days I found a suitable race - a 70 handicap. Starting low level with this one seems right so I can see what he is. I will medium intensity train my horses until 14 days before the race. Then it's 14 days of high intensity training right up to and including race day. I scoured the jockeys for a stable jock with good stats - CC Lopez has graciously moved his tack down from NYC to Maryland. I will give instructions of don't lead and prefer inside. Think I'll place a small wager too.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
A combination of a very wide trip and poor handicapping on my part led to a 4th place finish. It was a promising race though. His winning race was at 7f - I should have found a 7f race instead of 6f. He was 6 wide the whole trip and was running on nicely at the end. He dwelt at the start. All his races show some kind of trouble line. I wonder if that's related to poor agility? On to the next start. FYI - In the US game when the head lad doesn't say "This horse prefers dirt" it means they prefer turf. Mr. Wolf prefers turf. Another clue is the previous trainer sought out turf races for Wolfie.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
He was spent after that last race. Took another month off. I tried finding a suitable 7fur turf race but couldn't. So it's back to 6fur again. He gets low weight in a 100 handicap. Given a good trip I am sure he'll be right there. Hopefully he'll finally run a clean race. Looking at the records of the other horses this looks like a contentious race.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
Getting closer. The winner was a Graham Motion horse who won "not hard pressed". He won his last with the same comment. Looks like a stakes horse. Once again Mr. Wolf dwelt at the start and he made up ground in the stretch. No matter how many days it takes his next race will absolutely be at 7fur on the turf. Still, I'm getting the vibe he may only be a handicapper. Flogging Chuckie Lopez is also an option.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
Found the race. No excuses. A 70 handicap for 3yo's on the turf at 7fur. Monmouth Park - Chuckie knows his way around there. 12-1? Even the betting public wants me to jettison this dud.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
Wolfie's luck has got to turn around here. Today we're racing at home base - Laurel Park. His agility improved with special training over the break. I'm going with different instructions this time - Hold up, challenge later.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
Finally! A rather impressive win too. He was accelerating away in the final yards rather nicely. Maybe the hold up instructions are the key? There's still hope. Ideally another handicap at Laurel is next. I'll try a few handicap grades higher though and try to get a weight break and hope he does that big rally again.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
We're at another do or die moment. After that last impressive win the head lad suggesting gelding Wolfie. He's no world beater and the fact he always gets in trouble makes this decision a no-brainer ... geld him. So, up to Aqueduct for another 6fur handicap.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
He would of won. The trip note says it all. Once he got clear he accelerated really well. He paraded laid back for the first time in his career too thanks to the gelding. Will continue on for now. End of year break is up. Maybe his 4yo season will be the breakout year? lololol

Re: Let's try to start an empire
So begins the 4yo season. Goal - a stakes placing. Yes, really. Back to Monmouth against among others an undefeated 11yo A virus is currently ravaging the stable. How apropos.

Re: Let's try to start an empire
He is consistent in that he always gets a check. A nice second to start the year. I think it's time to try 7fur again. Second start of the year - I think I'll try a minor feature race.
