I can't find what this does/is in SO6, can someone explain it to me?

Its just used(if enabled) to smooth out jagged edges and to blend colours with pixels etc, if enabled or disabled you wouldn't notice any dramatic difference.

One thing you may notice is the higher you set anti-aliasing the slower the frame rate on older computers
