Just curious, did you run his offspring to see how they performed?
Reason i ask is i once had a stallion that had very average bars but won everything i put him in.
I'm guessing he was high in the "X" stat.

From what I am experiencing in my own game - I can't see what any game bred horse could offer you now, Paul.

I don't think any gamebred can compete with the top league players horses.

At least for me, there seems to be a point where your breeding reaches a plateau and seems to level out. Any increases in performance are so negligible that the ideosyncrases of the CK almost nullify any gains made in breeding.

That's when I feel you have to introduce new blood to your breeding lines. Sometimes that's as simple as breeding your sprinters with your middle distance horses to give a new blood line of milers, you can then breed this new bloodline with your existing milers. Then I sometimes see an improvement in my milers performance. The resulting new bloodline can then be bred into horses that run over other distances.

I have introduced gamebreds to my bloodlines, usually thru' the breeding barn, but you never see an imediate improvement. Any improvement takes about 3 or 4 generations to come thru'. This method is totally hit or miss and can lead you down a blind alley and then you have to abandon these horses and start over again. If you do find that horse to give a breakthrough, the increase in performance will only be one length at the most, sometimes less.

We are all looking for that little bit extra. There is very little to choose between the top trainers horses, all our horses have good green bars, and sometimes it is only the vagories of the racekit that decides which horse wins. An example of this is one of Pauls milers. I can't remember the exact details but it had two average runs, then two G1 wins, then two average runs whereas my mile horse had 4 poor\average runs then followed it up with three G1 wins.

I would agree with most of this, I do much the same things to create new lines from within my own stock. Though I have recently changed the base minimum of three sets of bars for my next team, all from gamebreds and all taking many generations to bring those new bars in whilst ironing out the flaws. Just about to trial and I am guessing half a length improvement if I am lucky.

Race results in the league are increasingly just about luck as our respective teams get closer and closer on paper.

i have no option now but to breed to gamebreds if i breed what i have with what i have
the same quality horses come along and its a waste of time so i have to experiment with gamebreds

Good practice for so7 anyway
