My horse won’t break from the gate
Hey y’all! I’m a newbie, so I apologize if this question has been answered. I tried searching, but found nothing. So, I have a horse that is very naughty and sometimes doesn’t break from the gate. I don’t want to sell him because when he does run, he’s good! I’ve only raced him 5 times, and he didn’t start for one of those races and hasn’t started twice in training. How can I make him act right? Thanks ❤️

Not sure how to fix this - might be possible if you manually train your horses. It is happening because of it's 'Quirks' bar. When it comes to buying and or breeding horses you want the quirks bar to be empty or near empty.

Ohh ok, interesting. Thanks! Are traits like that passed on through breeding?

Re: My horse won’t break from the gate
I had one like this right at the start of my game. He either won easily or refused to race.
I didn't manage to cure it but it got better as the horse got older. My way of managing it was to enter him in 2 races quite close together then if he refused to run in the first one he was still fresh enough to run in the second. If he ran in the first race I scratched him from the second.
He was so good when he did run that I did breed from him. He passed this quirk on to some of his offspring but not all.
I actually entered him in my first league team as a 5yo and over 13 races he only refused to race twice. At 3yo he was refusing every other race. Hopefully yours will get better with age too.

Re: My horse won’t break from the gate
This happened with a good horse of mine, but he only picked up this trait in his 5yo career. By then I think he had enough of the game and this was his way of telling me!
I found that putting headgear on him guaranteed him to start the race, but he always ran poorly because he didn't react to the headgear! If I had to do it again, I would put him away on a break for a while and look to bring him back a fresh horse and see if he's any different. If not, you could try gelding him?
