Post subject: | Question for Mark - Pace in US races |
Hey Mark, Team, Amongst this whole shelter In place thing I came back to this game. Love it. However I noticed something that has me severely scratching my head. Every time I look at a race I see awfully slow fractions for US races. I’m talking 27 and change on the opening quarter. This is not US racing at all. So my natural inclination is to tell me horse to steal the race but it never works. My question is... what is the logic on the pace for US dirt races? As a horse player, if I saw a horse go off at 27 and change I’d be screaming at my TV. ... I love this game, but it doesn’t really translate to US racing at all. Should I be playing a different country? ... I’m happy to lend my insight into how US racing is run if that helps. Is Thai something that can be fixed via an update? Pace feels useless in this game, which is not how races are run in the states. ... also adding blinkers doesn’t help my horse show any bit sort of speed that it usually does in real life. Thanks. Criticisms are constructive only. Happy to assist anyway I can. |

The pace for all races no matter the country is based on British racing where the pace starts slow and is gradually ramped up through the race and depending on how many front runners and handy racers (to take the expressions from the game) there are, will determine how the race pace will develop. ie. many forcing the pace will develop into a crawl for the finish line and too few will develop into a sprint. I know that is not the way races are generally run in other countries, many countries tend to use a fast early pace as a normal way of running and if your horse can't keep up then you have no chance normally due to the herding instinct. I remember French racing being this way. I think in your case it's best not to dwell too much on sectional times and focus more on the overall abilities and finish style of the horses, maybe even play about with pacemakers to see what happens. |

US races are supposed to have more pace but it could be these effects got lost along the way. I'll put it on the list and hopefully something can be tweaked at some point. |

Thanks, Mark. I thought about it a bit, and wondered if it was the run up that may throw these opening fractions off a bit but I do not think that is the case. For those that do not know, "run up" is the time (distance) between the gates and the clock actually starting. It varies by track and is usually a few seconds. |
