Whats peoples views on retuiring to stud? If you get a superhorse, do you race it for a season ala Sea the Stars or do you keep it on and try and make serious money from it over a sustained period? |

I retire my 3yo fillies when they get beaten fair n square by a better horse of mine, some goto stud at 3 years old right after the guineas only a maiden and guineas run under their belt. Stallions i'll keep in training if they can develop from a mile as the season goes on. |

In SO3 i often had to retire horses before their time, just to make space for a new batch of 2YO's, but generally I would retire them at 5, although you get some horses that peak at 2 or 3, and then decline rapidly, and then others that are poor at 2, but improve steadily with age?? |

Depends how much money there making. I have this problem at the moment, my star filly...has winnings of over $1.5 mil this year...and she is basically keeping my stable alive. The money has allowed me to make all the improvements and buy the breeding barn. I'd like to send her to stud to have some good offspring from her, however Im not sure I can afford to send her. |

4YO for me trial them at 3 keep the best keep those till 4 then send to barn but that's me. |

Up to you really. If the horse is your main earner for the stable then keep it running. If you`ve got something to breed with it then that may be the best route. Once my stable is up and running producing winners I keep them running but if it`s early days I send them to stud early and hope for 3rd party offspring to be as good or better. Best to check on 3rd party or potential mares first before retiring. Basicaly go for the money. |

I tend to retire mine at either the end of their 4yo year or the beginning of their 5yo year. I only breed with those who have won at least five group 1s and the rest just get either sold or retired from game. I think it depends on whether you need to keep the prizemoney rolling in to stay afloat or whether you can afford to retire earlier and start breeding. With a 'superhorse' I might be tempted to keep them running longer to see just how much they can win. |

retire before 7 they still are very consistant at 6 but at 7 the abilty tends to die off |
