I don't know if I am reading it right but seems to work for me.

The way I read the condition bars is the red bar is the condition of the horse and the green bar is how willing the horse is to run.

I try to get them both to the the top before racing yea this means 3 to 4 races for some and more for others.

I've never really got to the bottom of what the red bar is but I use the green bar as a guide to when to race my horses i.e. when it's full they race!

Never used manual training though so I don't know.
