What is the best method,give jockey instructions or leave it to their judgement?i have tried both methods with mixed results.When i used to play SO2 if the horse had high speed bar but low stamina i would instruct 'slight hold up'',if a horse had high stamina i would instruct''race handy''or ''even pace''.on SO4 some jockeys must be hard of hearing as they usually ignore instructions lol

depends on the horse if hes at the right trip i prefer even pace if hes up in trip hold up challenge later if he down in trip race handy or even pace challenge earlier really only you can find this out yourself as you know your horses beter than anyone i def wouldent leave it to the jockey i find riding the horse takes up all of there brain power without having to decide on what tactics they should use

thanks for the reply pjrhodes1970,one jockey instruction i have had trouble with is the one ''force pace''.i thought if a horse that stays 16 furlongs was raced over 12f,logic suggested it should be able to front run and win going away,yet the 16f horse usually gets beaten over 12f when forcing pace,i guess as in real racing the high stamina horse vulnerable to horses with ''a turn of foot''.This is a very helpful forum with many questions answered

following the advice you gave me has shown an improvment.I did manage 1st in irish 2000 guineas with 1 horse,then french derby next day with another,that was with taking your advice thank you.My previous mistake i believe was as well as instructing ''hold up''i would also instruct ''don't lead''.Perhaps that was counter productive.Anyway thanks again for advice

I tend not to give instructions right off. I let the jockey run two or three races, and watch the performance.

I will go with the best of the choices, or tweak it slightly. For example, if "hold up" is showing the best results, but the horse just isn't quickening enough, I would adjust to "slight hold up", etc.
