Post Training questions
Hi guys,

I was wondering a few things about training/gallops:

1. Have you found that galloping a 2yo who normally prefers classic-long distance at 5-6f will improve its performance in 2yo maiden races?

2. When a horse is in heavy training do you keep the "intensity button" on red or do you switch it to blue or orange for a few days after a race etc...does anyone notice a difference in recovery or performance?

3. When training a horse up to a race using the gallops function, have you noticed a difference in performance whether you train the horse up by galloping it at the race distance, at over the race distance, or at under? (ie, if you're training for a mile race, do you breeze 7f, or 9f...?)

Do you notice any difference in your maiden 2yos if you start them training at 3 instead of 2?

Thanks...

Greetings!!

1. Often it can help, if even to help knock the green-ness out of them.
2. You'd definitely want to switch to blue immediately after a race, give them time to recover, increase to orange in time, and build up to red approaching next race. Too much red and you'll knacker your horse before the season hasn't got too far in.
3. I tend to breeze horses at 7f, regardless of racing distance. Tweaked a little here and there, not noticed a great difference, but haven't experimented as much as you have to be able to answer your question fully.

I always train them at 2yo. Even my 2m+ horses will get a run over 1m and 1m2f for experience. A small percentage will have enough class and scope to go and compete.

Well hi there Colm!

(I'm the artist formerly known on ORLWorld as shaddeh...you might remember me from the SO3 league staff, LOL :P)

My quarter here at uni is coming to a close and I'll have a couple weeks to get addicted to this before spring quarter starts.....hehe.

I was lazy and would leave them in blue until Feb 14, switch to yellow Feb 21, and go to red (I'd leave them on red) about Mar 1...that would have them ready for the Dubai races, they'd run until about May/maybe June, and have the summer off before coming back for a race or two in the fall. That would usually culminate in the BC and then they'd crash right after and get the winter off. But I seem to have better results actually giving some time off after races. Fancy that. LOL

Shaddeh. Hope you are well, and uni isn't giving you too much grief.

Will you be able to join us this season?

I'm thinking almost certainly not. This quarter has been nothing but chaos and although I feel like I had some good lines starting on the SO4 game, I have to start all over due to my hard drive going kaput on Saturday. But I'll be cheering you folks on for sure. :)
