 Help with Breeding
Hi
I am hoping that someone can help me with this question.
Is it best to breed horses that have run at the same distance like 2 at 5f to get a sprinter or would you go for a 5f and a 6f?
Does this theory work for all distances?
I thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,
There is no right or wrong way.
You could breed a 5f horse with a 5f horse and produce a horse that supposedly wants 5f but is best over 6f.
On the other hand you could breed a 5f horse with a 6f horse and produce a horse that supposedly wants 6f but is best over 5f.
Its just trial and error. Just breed your best.
Jay

Agree. I did, in SO2 after breeding lots of really good horses see what breeding a 5f horse with a 2m mare, both horses had won multiple G1's the sprinter more so than the 2 miler. I ended up with a horse that the game thought wanted 1m4f but only ever stayed 7f and won a couple of G3's!
I would say breed the best with the best. I've found you really have to be picky about which game horses you breed with. I've used some which had fairly good form but with only the one or so G1 win. Usually they aren't that good for breeding.
I suppose it depends what exactly you want to breed. If you are struggling for milers then I've tried breeding a 1m2f mare with a 6/7f stallion 9 times out of 10 you get something which is too slow for a mile but doesn't stay 1m1 or 2f. Sometimes though you get something lightening fast with stamina to stay 1m and more. It's definitely trial and error and takes a lot of learning to get right!
