Its because your horse has just won a Group 3 race.

Its just to say that the horse has won a group 3 race. Group races are the best races you can win, with group 1 being the main aim for all your horses if they are good enough!
All races have classes, Best races To lesser races shown in the table below.
Group 1 When won shows 1 in gold circle ( Biggest Prize Money )
Group 2 When won shows 2 in gold circle
Group 3 ( What your horse just won ) Inticated with 3 in gold circle
next to your horses name.
Listed Races
Handicaps 0-60,0-70,0-80,0-90,0-100,0-110 this last one being the best
handicaps you can win.
Claiming/Selling races - Where you would look to offload a horse that has not performed well in all the races above. Winning these races will put your horse up for auction at the end of that race day.
Maidens - Where you would be looking to get a horse its first win

Pretty much the same. Just Graded races instead of Group races, higher handicap marks. National Hunt Flat races are for horses unraced at any other regulated type of race which includes all other type of race in the game.
Untill you try there is no real way of knowing if your horse can compete over jumps. Apart from maybe exporting the horse and taking on other exported horses you may have.
