Post 2YO Sprinters, Any Advice?
I've never really been into the my sprinters so I'm after some advice now that I'm looking for possible league entries. I'm gonna pick up what I can at the pre season auction, building from there and I'm wondering how to handle them. How many races at most should a 2yo sprinter be having? Should I debut them early or hold out until later on in the season, which is what I do with all my 2yo, wait until August.

Cheers in advance

mate buy buy buy in 2yo auction that exactly how i started i found some gems and just bred the heck out of them
race early i like to start at high level maiden wise i like to stick them in the deep end eg. conditions race or even a feature like hillary needler or
contienental cup or national listed race 5f they can sink or swim dont be put off they will improve but if you find one that can
win 1 of them your in business to start breeding early dont be scared to stick all of yours in 1 race you need to find out who the best is dont be scard to
put your 2yo in abbey or nunthorpe if your 2yo runs in a 2yo race and clocks 56 - 58 secs stick them in the g1 sprints

you can race a 2yo sprinter up to 11 times a season no problem so dont worry about that

my best avatorr was bred from a 2nd generation game horse eg her grand parents were bought in 2yo autions
so if you are lucky you can find a decent 1 quick

good luck with it mate

p.s 5f continental conditions race in april or may is far tougher to win than a 2yo g1 race so aim at that if you get one that wins it
you could have a good one i found it really hard to win

My Bernebeau was a Pre season auction purchase, now 45/48 wins all group 1 2 and 3's over 5f.

That is odd because I have found the complete opposite. Any 2yo's I have raced hard at 2 and 3 have won a G2 or G3 and then not gone onto anything better. But those who I hold back and take slowly usually end up being good late 3yo's and 4yo's. There have been one or two exceptions, but they were REALLY good horses who won G1's over 4 or 5 seasons.

I tend to race a 2yo sprinter in a maiden then wait for the later group or listed races because usually by then you're racing against other horses who want sprint distances. (Rather than something like the Brockelsby or the Coventry which are often filled with horses who will want 1m+ in time). They probably won't run in a G1 as 2yo's (there has only been 1 exception and he has turned out to be seriously good). Then they will bypass Dubai and go to the Cammidge (Sp?) Trophy or something similar then the Duke of York Stakes the next season. If they win that they'll go to Ascot, Newmarket, Haydock etc. If they don't then they'll go to the Wokingham, Ayr Gold Cup route and try group races the next season.

I have found that most sprinters are best at the end of their 3yo year and into their 4yo year. I haven't had any who I could say peaked at 2 then didn't go on. I have found sprinters almost impossible to come by in SO4 and I only won my first sprint G1 a few weeks ago and that was by starting a games in easy mode until I was given a sprinter rated 85+ and importing them, that is the only way I have got decent sprinters in my game now. I know it's cheating but I don't enter the league and I just enjoy winning as many G1's in my game as possible.

Good luck.

You make some good points SuperCat. I crammed in 4 seasons yesterday concentrating only on sprinters. I didn't get anything spectacular. Might stick to what I do with my horses and go later in the season.

I can get some ripping 2yo sprinters in game like this one:

But once I get them into the CK the times just aren't that great.

I managed to get hold of one who did well for me and has now planted the seed for future sprint success. His name was Born Special and this was his first offspring.

I transferred him into different game for his 3yo season, so as to eventually cover some Fillies I had lined up for him. He won a listed race in his first year. Put in some fairly decent times I'd say. Now his offspring have just won there maiden outings. Looking good so far :)

Iv also just started buying some game horses at the start of season auction as my 12f & sprint lines havent produced any decent colts to breed from. Hopefully I can pick one up this way!
