Post New guy saying hi!
I've been a guest on this forum for a little while after I bought Starters Orders about 2 months ago and saw some really friendly people around so I thought I'd join and say hi!

I got into Starters Orders to try and help me understand horse racing a bit more since I got a job at William Hill but couldn't really demonstrate my "Famous Expertise" because I didn't have any! But I've found the game crazily addictive and can't stop playing it!

Anyway I thought I'd just introduce myself and look forward to getting to know you all!

- Just realised this is in completely the wrong place, sorry about that!

Hi Mitch

Welcome to the community. I'm sure you will gain lots of expertise on here, some of the guys have an encyclopedic knowledge of the turf (not me I hasten to add, I'm just your average amateur punter).

Cheers and good luck

Post Re: New guy saying hi!
Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I was just wondering about a few things and I hope you can help me out.

I had a really promising 2 year old that won a group 1 race in it's first year but since then it hasn't been able to run as well as it did in that first year, it's breeding indicator is 1m and it's won 2 group 1's over that distance, now jockeys are saying that it may prefer 7f. So I put it into a group 2 race and it fails to show any promise again, I could really do with some advice on how to introduce my young horses to races, should I open with maidens till it wins, try conditions and handicaps then listed, g3, g2, g1? Or throw it into a group 1 and see how good it is? I've had a few horses never quite manage a group win so I enter them to auction and they get up to £750,000+ which makes me thing that they are worth holding onto so I do but they still never win anything. And also, how much should I run a horse in a season, I use simple training mode so they are always fit but am I affected it's ability and potential by over or under running horses?

2yo g1 races are alot more simple to win than the g1's for older horses

also if a 2yo wins a g1 it does not mean this horse will be g1 class as a older horse some 2yo dont train on
or develop or even reach there potential shown as a 2yo

also if he won a g1 at 2 and you put him in a g2 at 3 he will carry a g1 winning penalty in a g2 this
will make him top weight it makes it far tougher

the horse is a g1 winner if you cant get anymore out of him then he has a stud career ahead of him i only retire g1 winners
to stud so at least you have a g1 winner for breeding

When trying to ascertain if you are running the horse too often, check the horsds condition bar. If the green bar is lower than the red then it means that the horse isn't in peak racing condition. Wait until the green bar fills up again before racing the horse. I usually check a day in advance on the declarations screen, and withdraw the horse if it hasn't got the full green bar. You will find that some horses can stand many races over the course of a season, but some only manage 3 or 4 max. The best advice I can give is get to know your horses, they are all different.

Cheers for the advice guys, helps a lot! I've found it hard to micro manage my horses when you get a couple of seasons in and have so many! I don't race any past 6 years old and only sent g1 winners to stud. I've got what I hope to be a fantastic prospect of a 2yo coming through next season, from a stallion who won 12 g1s and a mare who won 14 g1s. I generally just throw any horse that is 3+ without a major win into auction and if the bidding goes well then I will buy it back and persevere with it. I'm trying to get a little bit better with the jockey orders and reading what is happening in races, I can't really see anything that makes me know what to tell jockeys to do to give my horses a better chance.

Jockey feedback tells you what style of running the horse prefers, it usually says something like ' raced handy, which suited' Once the comment has 'which suited' after it, you know this is the horse's preferred tactic.
