Post Installing mods
DB,

You seem to be the foremost authority, any chance you could cobble together an "idiots guide" to installing stuff/re-installing after updates? A few people struggle and I seem to have lost my ability to apply common sense as well, a simple step by step guide that everyone can follow.....

On the subject of Mods, some people complain about Mark's updates "ruining" their game, personally I like updates as they improve the game and it's only optional as to whether you install them, if your game runs smoothly nobody forces you to update, it's a personal choice.

I am version number 1.0184 don't see the point of updating something that is running smoothly.

I know the latest patch was a bit different, but normally game updates will only effect data modification. Best way to simplify things I think, is to make a back-up of the data folder.
1. Go to the game folder in Program Files, copy the data folder and paste it onto the desktop.
2. Open it up, and delete the loose DAT/GUI files so all that remains are the folders 1-11.
3. Now, work through folders 1-11 deleting all files that haven't been modified.
# 1 through 4 only : Start by deleting the h folder, the id file, trainers file and jockeys file.
# If that nation has had it's courses modified, you need to keep both the wp folder and the courses file. If not, delete.
# If that nation has had it's stable names modified, you need to keep the stables file. If not, delete.
# 1 through 4 only : If you play with edited horse names, you need to keep the horses file. If not, delete.
# 1 through 4 only : If you have modified the tipster names, you need to keep the tipsters file. If not, delete.
# Finally, keep the schedule files (home nation folder only) and all showcase files from folders 1-11.
Folder 1 = UK, Folder 2 = US, Folder 3 = Australia, Folder 4 = Ireland, Folder 5 = France, Folder 6 = Japan, Folder 7 = Dubai, Folder 8 = Germany, Folder 9 = Canada, Folder 10 = New Zealand, Folder 11 = Hong Kong
4. Now your effectively backed up, come out of the folder, leave it named data and move it from the desktop to somewhere safe.
5. Now each time you install a patch, go copy the back-up, then go to the game folder, paste it in and agree to over-write existing data. Your mods will be back as was, the updates will still take effect and it'll have been a quick and painless process.

Hi everybody, long-time lurker, 1st time poster!
I have played starters orders for a long time, until recently when my laptop finally gave up the ghost and packed in. Upon reinstalling on my new machine, I came to get the everything pack and Tommy Ps graphics, only to find that all the mediafire links are dead! I have scoured the net and haven`t been able to find itt anywhere else either :(
If anyone has the everything pack and could send it to me I would be extremely grateful, as I have to play the game without at the moment.

Nope I checked again, no joy for me :(
A Quick google searchly reveals SKY Broadband users are unable to acess Mediafire lately. Why this should be so, I have no idea, but I am a SKY customer. I have tried using a VPN to get past the problem, to no avail!
If you could get it to me via e-mail at Sweedy@hotmail.co.uk that would be great, unless it`s hosted anywhere else that you know of?

**Also if you have the UK Flat/NH schedule from this thread http://www.startersorders.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2661 I think thats the one I was using before. **

Thanks for replying so quickly :)

Surprised a VPN didn't do the trick, you probably won't get much joy going down the proxy route either then. I think Sky broadband are signed up to the IWF, so maybe Mediafire have gone and got themselves on the blacklist. I can't email the file as it is too large, but I'll see if I can re-host it elsewhere for you.
Try this - http://www.2shared.com/file/6OxX54fo/Sweedy.html

Nope, annoyingly enough I can open the web page, but when I click on download nothing happens, although it appears the computer is "thinking" if you know what I mean lol.
I have just tried opening the page with a couple of proxy sites, but again when I click download I am rerouted to another page associated with the proxy site, not with 2shared.
But here`s the REAL kick in the nuts - I can download other files from 2shared, including the 2shared toolbar and other peoples uploads!
If theres any reason why this should be, I don`t know it :(
I have tried to download several times and it now says I have reached my download limit so I have to wait 64 minutes, although I definitely do not have the file, I am quite computer savvy and am sure of this.
Thanks for taking the time to try and re-upload for me, I cannot work out quite what the problem is with the new upload as I can download other files as I said above.

Also I could probably live with the majority of whats missing, I have now made my own betting slips, blackboard etc and I am using Tommys graphics, so the silks are not an issue either. I have managed to get the banners & flat facepacks from The Dukes excellent site so am not missing much except some Trainer and Jockey pics which I could probably add later or do without at all.
The one thing I DO miss however, is the schedule I used to play which had all the correct race names, complete with sponsers and (I assume) correct prize money. I think it is the schedule I mentioned in an earlier post and I would love to be able to play it again.
I did open up a showcase file with the decrypter but I was a bit daunted by the size of the task facing me when starting from scratch! If all else fails I suppose that would be the next route to go down, but I can see it taking me until SO5 is released!!
Thanks again for your help, appreciate your efforts.

Well, unbelievably, after 3 days of messing about, mediafire started working again. It seems thier censoring (quite rightly) of sites that are found to be carrying illegal files such as child porn etc has been done a little over zealously and instead of blocking specific URLs, they are blocking entire sites. Annoying for people such as myself who are trying to use the site for legitimate purposes, but I am delighted to say I am finally sorted. :)

Is this all compatible with SO5? If I add all the files from this pack is that ok with my games?
