err i dont think anyone on here has paid 2 grand for 1 day of cricket
people who pay that amount of money can obviously well afford it so fair play to them
i know of some people who have paid £1500 a head for a 5 course meal at royal ascot and miss half the racing
guess for them the racing part was not the point of the day but fair play to them if they can afford to throw 3 or 4 grand on a meal with wine
it seems to be the way sport is going
the anoying thing about that is most of the people are there for a jolly and dont give a dam about the sport itself

i think the 8o quid i paid is fair enough and its something i have always wanted
to do to go to an ashes test so will thoroughly enjoy the whole day and experience
the plan was Perth Melbourne or Sydney but old trafford will have to do for now
odds on it will tipp down the whole day

no prawn sandwiches here :P

The nail has been hit on the head
Cricket like most sports today has become a casualty of GREED!
Every sport in the long run will be finished off as a spectacle by money

Couldn't agree more, and the impact of this is that top class sport is getting slowly but surely out of the reach of the common man - very sad indeed.

Never a truer word said its a sad state of affairs when the majority are getting priced out of sport and dont get me started on TV Fees

Football's demise can be traced back to the start of the Champions League
There was nothing wrong with the European Cup as it was, but Sepp Blatter wanted a 'little love child' and the money spinning CL was born
Players then wanted to be in it and wages rocketed, clubs had to be in it, so prices of tickets rocketed to pay for the players to play in it.
Then the clubs and players complained of too many games, The League cup, F A cup, then even the World cup suffered. The players complaining of burn-out
All this for a majority of meaningless games in the initial league stages. The only time it gets interesting is when it goes back to the knock-out stage.
The IPL and the Aussie version of T 20 are in danger of doing the same to Cricket.
You can not blame the players for wanting more money, but the authorities have got to get to grips with the amount of cricket played.

Disillusioned
Ian

You are spot on the champions lge is pointless before February you get the odd big match
but does not mean much unless its do or die like the knockout stages

I think there is plenty of room for 20 20 you cant argue with the financial pull of t20 crowd numbers etc.
i think ODI's need to go the new rules just show how floored this type of the game has become
keep tests and t20 and dump ODI and that ICC (pointless) Champions Trophy which England host again in July
a 7 week long world cup has always been ridiculously long

if i was in charge i would have it this way

Give Ireland test status :P

each Test playying nation has to play 7 tests at home 7 tests away each year 4 series per year so 2 & 5 or 4 & 3 test series
each test playing nation faced each other every 2 years at the end of every 2 year cycle the no1 ranked test nation receive trophy

T20 world cup every 2 years 9 test nations 1 qualifier (2 week long tournament)

once every 4 years a new 2 innings t20 super cup 9 test teams 7 qualifiers (16) 3 week long tournament

once every 4 years a test match world cup 1 innings 3 day matches
knockout comp top 8 ranked nations qualify for tournament
qf - sf - final 2 week tournament

would be very interesting

My schedule would be
a Five year cycle
6 tests against
Australia, 1 year
South Africa 1 year, and
One of the best at the time test teams (India Pakistan or West Indies)

Other two years would be two 3 Test series against the others
No more than 6 home tests a year

Each test series would be preceded by 1 T20 and 3 ODI's

The split summer tests would have a triangular tournament of T20's and ODI's between England and the 2 nations of no more than 3 T20's and 5ODI's. This should be between the test series
Winter should be in the same 5 year cycle keeping 6 tests against Australia and South Africa
The ODI world cup should be every 5 years with 4 groups of 4 with quarters ,semis and final .no more than 6 games per team over 2 -3 weeks
T 20 world cup would be the same format every 5 years 2 years after the ODI equivalent
The ICC trophy should be just for non test nations, giving the best 4 instant qualification for T20 and ODI World cups

I agree with both of you on World Cups, they should mean something more and not be another one 18months later! make it like the Olympics or Football World Cup where its every 4 years so there is a massive build up to them!

As for Tests, i agree with Ian, play the big nations more...whats the point in a 5 game series against Bangladesh and then a 2 game series with SA? What do you learn from that?

I think they need to sort the Pakistan situation out as well, they cant keep playing in Dubai, if there not safe, get rid of them!

Also DRS, it has to be a law, not a choice! Use it everywhere or dump it completely!
