Post Norton Antivirus (SONAR) deleting your game?
*EDIT* Starters Orders 6 is now code signed which should remove any Norton related problems. If not please email in ***

Yet again this piece of 'software' is causing many people problems installing Starters Orders 5.

From what I am aware Norton AV (SONAR) takes a fairly unique (and lazy) approach by presuming a file is dangerous not because it is but because it does not exist on their legitimate software list. This may not be so bad if the program actually told the user that it was about to delete a game and asked if this was OK but it goes ahead without the users permission.

In order to rectify this a form has to be completed and submitted and some time later Starters Orders will be added to their database (presumably when they can be arsed to do it) and this has to be done for every update or patch.

I believe people have managed to configure Norton to ignore Starters Orders and will post the solution here when It's confirmed. I don’t have a copy of Norton here and don’t intend to get one.

Personally I would remove Norton. Most people get it free with new PC's anyway and there are far better Anti Virus solutions available that are completely free. AVG FREE and SUPERANTISPYWARE are just two. Maybe others could chime in with their recommendations.

This is a solution on Norton's website:

    Start your Norton product.
In the Computer pane, click Quarantine.
From the list, locate and click the file that you want to restore.
In the right pane, under Recommended Action, click Options.
    Click Restore this file.
In the Quarantine Restore window, make sure that Exclude this risk from future scans option is checked.
    Click Yes.
After the file is restored, click Close.
In the Security History window, click Close

Different versions of Norton may vary slightly.

I use avast.

Norton is horrible bloatware that savages PC performance. I would rather have no AV than Norton.

I use Kaspersky. Get it for free every year from my bank as a bit of a reward for being a loyal customer! - it's not bad either - much superior to Norton, (having been a previous Norton user).

As from 0.921 we now use code signing. This means Microsoft have us on some list (which of-course needs paying for).

This should mean that virus checkers will be less willing to flag false positives and that you should now be able to install the game and patches even if you have Norton installed... Time will tell.
