First round of betting plus barrier draws for the Melb Cup. https://www.justhorseracing.com.au/gene ... tar/413774Rekindling is looking sweet - great barrier and NO ONE over here in Oz is talking about the horse

Re: Melbourne Cup field for next Tuesday.
Well the punters have now plunged Rekindling to win the Cup - from 16 into around 10-1.
Red Cardinal really does look the best horse in the race but barrier 24 is a shocker!
So at the moment I will box up - Marmelo, Johannes Vermeer, Max Dynamite, Ventura Storm, Wall of Fire, Rekindling and Amelie's Star to run first and second.

Re: Melbourne Cup field for next Tuesday.
A pro punting syndicate tried to back Humidor to win $1million but the bet was rejected and knocked back to $250k.

No bet in the race but my selection would be Max Dynamite E.W.

Re: Melbourne Cup field for next Tuesday.
On Rekindling ante-post, obviously needs it share of luck in running, but hopefully can go close

Re: Melbourne Cup field for next Tuesday.
Rekindling for me Paul. Also interesting to point out that the only Euro horse to win the Cup without a lead up start in Australia was Vintage Crop. So using that guide I think Max Dynamite is a genuine chance. I think that this years raiders are stronger than last year and I wouldn't be surprised if they fill the first five places. Of the Aussie hopes I think Ventura Storm trained by David Hayes is the best hope. The Hayes dynasty has a strong history of having multiple starters in a race (two in the Cup) and the roughie of the two gets up. I will put a saver bet on Red Cardinal - I think it's the best stayer in the race and a proven big race traveller but drawn in barrier 24 is a killer! Being drawn so wide - if the horse does win the jockey will weigh in over weight because for the first part of the race he will be able to order a cup of hot chips and a can of coke and be able to consume it all before passing the winning post the first time

Re: Melbourne Cup field for next Tuesday.
Here goes...
13 / Big Duke - Perfect campaign leading up to this. You can't go wrong most times with Darren Weir at the long distances
4 / Tiberian - Came back this year with Peslier aboard first time and he shows much improved speed. I think the two get along very well. Suspect at the distance.
6 / Red Cardinal - Was very impressive winning the Belmont Inv. earlier this year here in the US. Not using his regular jockey or the jockey that won the Cup for the trainer a couple years ago makes me wonder if he is legit.
9 / Max Dynamite - Only two races prepping for this after a super long layoff scared me off him.
23 / Amelia's Star - Huge win in the Bart Cummings followed by a easy prep for this that looks awful on paper. A Weir charge

Thank you so much, gentlemen!
I backed the winner and third and I won the quinella as well. I should have gone the trifecta as well.
