Can someone email a save in. This is probably related to breeding progression and does not seem to be a problem initialy.

I think it becomes a problem when u bring flat horses into a jumps game.

Mine are all bred in this game and not transferred in mate

Wasn't SO7 suppose to stop domination by breeding just as good a horse as the player?

Bit disappointing that this is still happening, not taking anything away from Paul.

I dont think you can stop good trainers developing good horses.

In the context of the single player game, unless there is a sliding scale where the better the trainers horses become, the tougher the AI horses become, domination will happen.
As far as the league goes, making it easier not harder to breed quality horses is the only way to make things more "even".

I havent played SO7 yet so i dont know the details but....
I am currently trying to play SO6 on hard without using the transfer pool or any of the other known tactics for success and the one thing i have noticed is that once you have a breeding barn the challenge drops of steeply. The money you get from selling a few foals means you can start buying and breeding on mass.

I think it was more supposed to make a game with a better difficulty curve, rather than a game with one difficulty step (not breeding yet -> step -> breeding "WIN" button). It was even for people newer to the game.

I play 7 only now and I think it has accomplished that goal. At least on Hard, about to give another spin on Normal to feel difference. If I were in SO6, and had run the same number of breeding years, at this point I would be able to start maidens in listed races, and win most Graded/Group races if I chose ones suited the horse properly. Playing with less betting cheats, I can not start my maidens that way, and have maybe a 1/3 strike rate of horses that break maiden at all in first three baby races. I have one G2 winner. I did buy, at sales, some fair graded/group winning/placed mares and I am making progress. This is a much shallower curve.

I also would not want a game that never let me eventually get an edge on the AI w/o cheating. In other game design they often have tools to detect strings of bad luck, or just poor play, and still reward the player after a while (http://nautil.us/issue/44/luck/how-designers-engineer-luck-into-video-games). They do that (cheat for the player if needed) since it has been learned that loosing constantly is not fun, and you do want to feel like you can improve. If you have, but a legit string of bad luck masks that, that is bad. Also, AI's that stomp every player always are just no fun, unless you are one of those rare people that loves pain. So, as expected, you can eventually get the upper hand on the AI. Faster or slower, based on several factors.

Breeding is like pulling a slots lever. I am rewarded for having more mares (more pulls of the lever). Other players play more seasons faster (pull those levers faster). There are other ways to search for horses. Since, with betting, there is no reason to not breed often, and certainly no reason not to play seasons as fast as possible (if you enjoy that), anyone who breeds more mares, more often, makes progress faster. Paul seems to have the time and pull the lever often. He also seems to be quite enjoying himself. That's fine.

I go slower, and win less, but I am also enjoying myself.

I see this often in online games. Someone that plays a lot starts posting their endgame set up when I'm still maybe a quarter of the way through. I don't let it get to me.

The only issue I continue to have is that the stats the game tracks on stud produce record are BAD STATS, mathematically, and make it quite hard to properly gauge and sort the AI studs. So players that quickly get a stable of their own studs will have a strong advantage over new players, or slower players who don't use a calculator every season. I stopped calculating my own stud stats, since that was tiring, and my breeding results degraded as expected. This rewards mass breeding since the statistical equivalent of "spray and pray" (shoot many rounds and hope one hits) is often the best strategy if the location of the targets (true stats to sort best AI studs) is unknown. I think it will frustrate a lot of people eventually when they don't realize why their breeding isn't getting results after breeding to the horses "at the top of the list" when sorting.

Hi Guys.

Looking for a bit of advice again.

I’ve got a 4yo Colt with 95% potential (was 90% at 3yo). And I don’t know whether it Will turn into a 100% potential horse or not. I was wondering if it doesn’t should i still retire it to the breeding barn and send it good mares with 80% - 90% potential and see what happens as there is only about 3% potential that is light green the rest is dark green.

I do like the fact that it has improved a fare bit from 3 to 4, even though it’s other stats leave a lot to be desired, but I guess it’s something to work on, and it is a group 1 winner.

Thanks for the help in advance.
Yasmin

He could make it to full bar by 5 its a 50/50 in my experience
alot dont make much improvement from 4 to 5 but some do id
keep him in training until 5 and if he is not a full bar and it was
me and my game id usually get rid

I's also train to 5 to see if it popped up. But ...

Even if it didn't I'd consider sending him to stud, depending on the rest of your barn. If he is better than your mare band in his non potential bars, you can use him as a broodmare sire. You get a cheap option to say improve good handicap/listed quality mares. The offspring should produce some that will also race usefully, though not all brilliantly. Race the useful ones for the funds, then sell them. Sell the ones that don't come out well as two year olds, for funds. Hang on to any that come out looking nice, even if also not quite full potential, if either they are a mare and improve your mare band, or would make a better broodmare sire than their sire.

That way you have funds to keep searching/breeding through the AI to find the 100% horse you want, and when you do you have a mare band with good other bars, and quite high potentials ready to go.

Only had the game a couple of days so not raced anything coming out of breeding but some decent yearlings with ~70% makes it an interesting crop (especially since all my horses - racing and breeding stock - are in the same potential range at 4/5 years old).

Hoping for a few fun ones to come through to build the stables around, and seeing some of the ones posted here makes me very hopeful for similar successes!

About 3 or 4 patches ago all my 100% 3yo horses started breeding 92% horses and I have never bred anything bettter since.

Also, I had a string of horses that were about 95% as 3yo and 100% as 4yo. Now all my horses don't reach 100% until they are 5yo.

It's fine for my NH horses as you want them to mature later, but it is a pain in the butt for my flat horses.

I think Paul mentioned this about 2 weeks ago and that was why he switched to breeding NH horses.
