Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
Im with Gray on the riding your own horse debate i also would have no interest in that For me its all about management side. I also tried G1 Jockey on the Wii many moons ago and while it was fun it did not hold my attention for long and no where near as long as Marks Brilliant games have for decades.
I also agree with Jalupen i have said this publicly before that the TTF system is not a good thing i thought it should have been ditched in the latest version it would certainly cut out alot of grinding most of it really.
The ability to use horses over and over again and have multiple copies causes the constant grinding if this was cut out the game would also become more challenging.
Id say most of us regulars are well into building teams but if Mark was to implement something New and we all had to start from scratch and even loosing all that work i would be happy to go with it.
also when it comes to funding i would have no issue with paying a one of entry/membership fee for future leagues.
again all of the above is just my own personal thoughts.

I would love to see the league return sooner rather than later.
It would be interesting to know how many trainers we could get on both codes.
Anyway, we will all have to wait patiently for Mark to tell us more

Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
I would agree with the ttf files can do without and I rather have the format of the last league rather than wait for months for a league while Mark/Leon get Twitch up and running if Mark wants to develop a system that you can ride a horse while live streaming which could take ages if not a year that can still be done behind the scenes although I will not be interested in it myself I am sure a couple might be but to me this will dilute what we have now and I rather have what we have now than what would be offered for the future that's my own view.

Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
Firstly the jockey idea (as stated) was just an example of something that may or may not happen in the future. Not now and even if it were to happen it would be a long way off and was definitely not an announcement of a feature or direction of the league or indeed anything worthy of discussion at this point at all.
Back on to more relevant points. The TFF files could easily be removed but I suspect people who may not play in the league use them as they were intended to be used for moving their favourite horses between games of different nationalities.

Well just getting rid of the TTF files only complicates it, but doesn't change all that much. I would suspect the best horses would be in the hands of the same players. If we are looking to work towards a higher degree of parity, which frankly I don't necessarily agree with, I doubt that it would be the way to go. I can already see how I can achieve the same results without having 50+ ttf files. It would take longer but fundamentally the approach, and therefore the possible advantage, changes little. Without TTF files I can still: - Sim through 500 seasons only concentrating on breeding. - Save and reload high potential pairings until I achieve their respective best possible outcome. - Restart over and over at the beginning to work from the best possible starting point. Essentially once I have enough high quality self bred horses of the same or similar age I can rig the outcome to achieve that their offspring will at least of equal or better quality. I can further ensure the sex of the horse fits my purpose for further breeding. Doing this I can keep a quality "stock" while using gamebred's to introduce new skill combinations etc... can be a crapshoot, and would certainly take longer than before, but in the end not all that much changes. All I am trying to say is this: jalupen wrote: get rid of the tff horse files breed with what you get in game = "life is like a box of chocolates you never know what youre gonna get" = anyone can breed a G1 winner Is just not true. Nobody should assume it is. All the breeding would happen in the same save game, but otherwise the outcome might just be the same as before.

Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
if you got rid of the ttf files you would not have the option to reuse horses and start in the best possible place in everygame you would have to start from scratch everytime buying gamebreds as there would be no transfer system so I cant agree with your point Namor.
also getting rid of the ttf transfer system would mean you cant breed multiple distances to your best stallion so surely that would make it more open for cashual players from my best sprinter stallion i can breed horses up to 1m5 or 1m6 from the one stallion again and again
My Point is the transfer system has been abused and you have to use it to stay somewhat competitive if it was not there it would open the whole thing up if thats really the direction Mark wants to go in to attract more in.

I can still do all of the above. Effectively I can create a horse of equal or better quality every three years. It just all happens in the same game. I just have to reload more until the RNG gives me the best possible outcome for a pairing - or the best possible pairing after cycling through available Colts. Currently I accept if I don't get five horses of top quality in a year.. which I couldn't do anymore. It just changes the approach but not the result. Once I have a decent stock of self bred horses I can sustain that quality, and improve on it, even without ttf files. Only restriction might be the limit on 150 horses if you want to breed for multiple distance. If you go all the way to that limit I reckon you can breed multiple distances and crossbreed between distances all the same. In the end the horse almost as good as before, just that I have one save in season 500 instead of multiple saves where I restart. Not saying we can't get rid of ttf's if that's the general consensus. I would miss it dearly, but even that is manageable. To be honest I have never taken part in an online league and have always bred this way, even during SO5. Just playing devils advocate here.

Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
Totally agree about the ttf files and Marks comment about it being used so non league players can swap the best horses between games only makes the game easier to dominate which then becomes boring when you are winning everything I rather grind out trying to get to the top than go straight to the top in 2 seasons by importing my best horses in every game I play.

Someone explained it to me long ago... Random Number Generator. Now the result isn't truly random and there is a finite number of horses that are the possible outcome of any breeding combination, but this exact fact allows you to reload/reuse a backup until you stumble upon that outcome or get reasonably close. Do that long enough and you can achieve in a single save what you currently might use the TTF files for. My whole argument is that removing ttf files restrict the way in which you can play the game, while adding no value, removing a feature rarely adds value.., or being a solution to the problem it is supposed to address. simpleminds wrote: Totally agree about the ttf files and Marks comment about it being used so non league players can swap the best horses between games only makes the game easier to dominate which then becomes boring when you are winning everything I rather grind out trying to get to the top than go straight to the top in 2 seasons by importing my best horses in every game I play.
Gray One thing that hasn't been mentioned is the fact that essentially I am playing two separate games within a save at all times, and removing ttf's would make one of those likely impossible. 1. Breed with my imported horses to achieve an even better horse. 2. Running an auction bought horse trying to give it the best possible career. These go hand in hand for me. I agree that there is limited joy to be had in taking 10L of Frankel time and time again, but that doesn't mean I want my options to be restricted. I want to be able to breed while playing and enjoying taking a horse from a 30 rating to ~90 hoping to win a listed race.. or cursing after once again coming in second in a group 3 race.

Re: Online league soon - scoping interest
Why not just create an API that gives direct access to the game engine? This API should allow a programmer to entirely automate running races, update handicaps, handle breeding etc. Horse files are exported as they are now so there isn’t actually a file that can be tampered with, and this could be replicated in the software a programmer creates. The league itself (to avoid the grind) could be based on participants not being able to upload a horse into the league beyond 25 (arbitrary figure) in game seasons. From that point forward breeding is done within the league from within a participants own stable or cross breeding through buying stud rights from other participants. Even the ability to buy and sell horses could be considered.
Of course this will require a programmer, I’m sure there must be someone out there looking for a project to do, someone at university doing computing maybe, shouldn’t be too hard to find.
