Lordedaw wrote: Do you save/export your horses at different ages before deciding which version to use in league and if so is there a better time of year to do it. For example would a 2yo being exported at end of a season be better than one earlier in year etc In the jumps game my horses tend to reach their max potential as 5yo, so I usually start saving them at that age. I save longer distance chase horses as 7 and 8yo. In the flat there are races at 2,3 and 4yo so I save them at each age. I tend to find my horses need about 3 or 4 races in a season for the absolute potential and realised potential to even out, so I save them anytime after that.

Githyanki wrote: Best advice I can offer right now is too forget the league and play the game, unless your very fourtunate you are going to be a while away from league capable horses, so I would make your first targets game targets and aim to win a G1 and set up a breeding barn etc, you will also need to get a handle on your finances.
When you have cracked the game g1's you will likely have a platform to build onto the league. First few years in game and the hardest, most enjoyable and most rewarding.
Josh I agree with Josh on this one Martin Just play on easy as it will make no difference to the end product. Concentrate on building up your bank so you can buy a breeding barn. Also it costs money to transfer horses from the game pool into your game and you can only transfer in 6 horses per season. Get your breeding going as soon as you can.....you've got a head start on breeding knowledge from the forums of late. It wont happen over night but it will happen in time. Enjoy the single player game and build up your bank.

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
Sorry but I have a couple more dumb questions and I haven't got time to scour the forums as I will be starting on the review shows later.
1. The potential etc bars do they go up and down at random points depending on good or bad runs or is there a set time in the year when changes happen ?
2. How much realistically can potential go up. For example if the potential is really low at 3 is it best to just offload.
3. I have had several easy Cheltenham Festival winners over the last 3 seasons and have exported them at different ages. When I go into the trialling section how do I see the bars so that I can see which is their best age.
4. Would I be right in assuming that anything with less than 90% potential is not worth considering for entering into league play.
5. Is there a limit on how many horses you can have in the export section.
Sorry again for all the questions but you are all that good at answering it means I can do this and work at the same time !

goes up at 2 3 4 starts going down at 6+

not much after 3 maybe as much as 25% from 2 to 3

You cant see Bars in CK best age 2 milers 5 3 mile + 6 4 mile plus 9 yo

agree
5. Is there a limit on how many horses you can have in the export section.
I deal with one distance at a time you can run trials with 40 runners in but found this is not realistic to trial like this I have 16 to 20 runners in trial to replicate the league conditions not sure how many horses the ck can hold i find more than 30 totally unmanageable as the filters are hard work

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
Cheers Paul,
Your answers prompt two more questions.
Do the potential changes happen at the end of the season or at random points ?
If you only keep 30 horses in the ck where do you store all your horses that you enter in the league ?
Oh, and how do you place a bet online in the ..... (only joking !!!)

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
Just a slight update on this one
if you only keep 30 horses in the ck where do you store all your horses that you enter in the league ? i back up the HDB file in saves folder so i have a HDB file for each distance i paste them in when needed to export the horse file or when i need to add more new horses to trial against current champs at that distance

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
5. Is there a limit on how many horses you can have in the export section.
I do something different from Paul. I have horses that run over different distances in each game. I do not specialise on one distance at a time and sometimes have 100 - 300 horses in the CK. I think the limit on the number of horses in the CK is pretty high.
To cope with so many horses I split the horses into groups. When you are in the CK there is an option to create groups and then assign horses to each group. I have a group for 4yo 2milers, 5yo 2 milers, 5yo 2m 4f, 6yo 3 milers etc.. I am thinking of having more groups this season by splitting the hurdlers up from the chasers.
When you are in the race part of the CK, just select the group you want to trial.
The reason I have several different distances in a game at a time is that I sometimes breed my 2 milers with my 2m 4f horses just to add some variety to the breeding lines.

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
Couple of adds: Potential increase, as Paul says this happens automatically as they age, and also happens mid season when racing and these are really important in my view, though it does not always occur. So you can look for this, the first is in their 2yo season they improve as they are run, so try and get maybe 4/5 runs into them at 2yo before you export. They improve again during the 3yo season, this again does not always happen and I am not sure if it is race linked, but I sometimes see small changes at the end of the 3yo year roughly October time on the game calendar. Again I export after. Have not seen much incremental changes at 4yo mid season, though as I play combined games this is usually when I focus on making my flat horses into jumpers I have had 1135 horse files in the export part of the game, ages 2-7, have not seen or noticed an upper limit yet, 1000 is usually the point where I cannot bring myself to go any further and suffer the pain of trials

It's interesting what u do with the HDB files, I once lost everything because I didn't know what I was doing and so I only save it now.

Re: Advice needed on breeding/league playing
Yep takes ages. I have a 'keep' group, which anything on the trial sheets goes into rest delete.
Things SO7 needs is to stop the screen forcing you back to the top and a select multiple before delete option.
