A pretty frustrating day of trial races for me with 4 horses finishing 4th and 2 in 5th.
Best effort was by Young Generation who placed over 1m4f in race 6.

Thanks to Gray and Doug for the races and comms.

Thank you guys so much, that was great to come home from Hols to watch and hear, I know i was a pacemaker for a few and had no good results myself ( mine ran as well as the donkeys i just saw at Skegness) i still found it exciting and can't wait for next batch :)

Didn't expect much so I should probably be happy with a couple of 3rds from Chelsea Flower Show and Searchlights.

One mistake I've made with my breeding lines, it seems, is to have too many hold up types who are too far off the pace near the end to do any damage. Will have to work on changing running preference of my lines.

Big thanks to Gray for organising these trials and to Doug for providing commentaries!

And congrats to trainers who managed to bag a win :)

Thanx for the races and commentaries.

I had 4 entries with 3 wins. Disappointed with the 1st race, I was hoping for a better finish than 11th. The pace was slower than I was expecting.

But I'm happy to see that my selective stat breeding program is really working well.

Mixed reviews for my stable.
I entered four into the hunt but was only really interested in my first runner Tonic Du - I think it will be competitive over a straight 2 mile in the lower grades.
My other three hunt runners were discards from my flat game and they did ok.

On the flat - my breeding game still has work to do - hard to draw any form line through these races as it's hard to tell if some of these horses are Group horses or Hcp'ers.
I am confident I will pick up lower hcp races in the next league but I will have to be more savvy on placing my horses.
Since I play on the Aussie circuit with almost billiard table flat tracks I will probably have to start them a little shorter than what I would do in game.

Over all I was hoping for a little better than what I got but at the same time I probably finished around par for my handicap!

Incredible strike-rate!

Care to elaborate on your selective stat breeding?

I don't mind sharing my strategy but it will destroy your enjoyment of the game. The way I play/breed is meant for the league and I'm quite sure that you will enjoy the regular game a lot less.

I churn out a lot of foals and thru selective breeding, I just keep the ones with a particular stat that I want and discard the rest.

The game is not meant to be played the way I play it.

Yes, I appreciate the point you make and probably wouldn't adopt such an approach as I enjoy a bit of gameplay too.

However, I'm curious which stat you pay particular attention to as opinion seems to vary about which to give priority to. Not sure if you are same person as the original Thunderspark but I seem to recall they paid most attention to confidence - is that still your prime decider for what foals you keep or are you focused on something else now?

Yea thats me.

I lost my password for my old account and I changed my email so I had to create a new account.

This is what I go by. For flats, breedingwise priority goes to...

1 - Absolute Max Potential rating regardless of actual potential. That's why older horses still produce good foals since their max potential is taken into account when breeding.

For racing, you want your actual potential to be at the max potential even if its not 10 or 100% max (others say 100% while I say 10)

2 - Extra speed rating. The higher the better

3 - Cruising burst

I'm warning you now because eventually the game wont be fun anymore.

I will give an example below and I won't go into detail because it's a bit more complicated, but you might get the idea...

Post Re: League Trials Races
I have many sprinter and miler mares with these stats...

Potential ranges from ( 9.5 - 9.8 )
Speed range ( 9.4 - 9.9 )
cruising Burst range ( 7.7 - 7.8 )

Anumite is just one of them. (see pic below)

I saw the trials and wanted some jumpers since I dont train jumpers. So I went looking for a gamebred with high Jumping speed and jump potential.

Found a colt with max jump speed but the best jump potential I found was 6.0. So I figure I'll just start with the jump speed and add it to my breeding lines.

Here is the stallion + one of the mares. Priority was to keep the jump speed in the breeding line all thru each generation.

Image

notice that each generation the speed and cruise burst got better with each generation while keeping the jump speed.

Image

Rumble needs to be bred again 2 more generations to max out the new foal's potential, speed and cruising burst. Eventually all foals will have similar stats. I was not expecting for Enthusiasm to pass thru each generation. Not sure what enthusiasm does to the horses.

So...that's what I did.

Post Re: League Trials Races
Quite a few breed just for the league, and it does change the way the game goes, I try and do both by playing multiple breeding games alongside my main flat and jump games, but often get frustrated now in having to wait to do a season on the main games before I can roll onto the next crop of foals. My transfer pool is also now glitchy which makes the whole thing a royal pain in the wotsits. I think I am likely at the point where I'll abandon the game and just run 5 breeding stables for export at three and five. I was getting flustered about keeping copies at 4 so I could bring my successful 3yo's back at four in the next league season, but given the volume of horses you can breed between leagues, I am now at the point where I do not think it worth the effort and it is easier to just skip a year or go with a new crop.

For stats again I agree it is those three, potential and speed are not so hard to breed into your lines, it seems to me crusing burst is harder and also the one that segregates good from great, if you get to the point where you have a load of stallions and mares with all in spades your basically set to own. No real secret just lots of breeding and filtering of those that gain the stats from their parents and those that don't.

Jumping is a little more of a mystery, some of my best jumpers in tk, statistically look awful at jumping, and I have had full potential jumper stats on horses that could not win a donkey derby. :) but I figure combined with the same three elements is the way to fly.

Jealous of that breeding crop by the way :)
