It's good to see that you've worked this out guys, but please just proof read what you write in case somebody could take it in the wrong way.

Moving on. I like Ghost's idea of the handicapper deciding upon the weights, if decs were a week early then Gray would have a week to go over the horses' form and decide what weight each horse should carry. But that is extra work for Gray and Leon so it would ultimately be up to them. But I think that could be a fairer way of doing it.

Once again me as the handicapper would like to see at least three runs to get in any group 1 final in week 13 you can run a horse above and below its best distance to get 3 runs easily I would like Leon or Jamie to consider this it would be fairer for all than having a horse to say have a one run in a 1m 7f Maiden finish 6th gets a rating of 85 then appear in the final over its best distance of 2miles and Win easily that just doesn't seem fair and would leave a sour taste in my mouth and that's my own opinion.

100 is too low for winning any maiden. You cant have horses finishing second in a top class maiden rated 95.

You might leave the horse that finishes midfield on 75 and then rate those ahead higher and higher until reaching the winner and then lower and lower on the way towards those that finish out the back. But its not an exact science.
.

I think that maidens in weeks 1/2 are almost like G1 races as all the big trainers are running horses in these races. 100 is definately too low for a winner in these races.

If you win a week 1 maiden in a true run race then your horse should be rated at least 110.

Its what happens to the handicaps when the race is not run true.

Last season you could have a horse finish 3rd in a poor run week 1 maiden and get a handicap of 112. The only races it could run in after that was group races and it was not a group race quality horse. The horse was ruined for most of the season. Its handicap would come done over the season, but it would take about 4 group races for this to happen.

The flat rules really needed to be sorted out and posted on the forum.

I dont mind helping with some handicapping, though it depends when the ratings need to be done by.

I will have to Handicap race by race some maidens don't have big fields and some listed races have small fields it's not like we have 30runner Maidens this season so to say start at 75 midfield and work your way up and down it's not going to be that easy Listed winner may get 110 start and work down from that I don't want to give a horse who finished last in a listed race some 10 lengths behind a winner a harsh mark although trainers should think before entering these races if your a top trainer from previous season you know how good your horse's will be but a rookie wouldn't.

I could look at giving maiden winners a start of 110 but will have to take race by race now 2yo races maybe different listed winner will differently get 100plus but is this fair if a maiden winner gets less of a rating when the better 2yo's might of been put into the Maidens.

Thanks for you offer Matt but I would rather do it myself then I know what I am doing better have one doing it than two doing it and giving different marks from each other.

You need to judge the pace of the race etc. You also cant just rate every maiden winner 110, some maidens will be full of Group horses and others will all be handicappers.

2yo's need to be rated much lower than older horses.

I just meant look over what you have done or if you wanted some helping judging what races were good or bad. Sure you'll be fine.

Just finished doing the flat Handicap Ratings this is the first time I have ever done it so bare with me 8) in the end there wasn't many races with big fields so I at to take every race on its merit especially the 2yo races knowing a nursery 0-80 was next week Most Maiden's where rated starting with 110 but not all some will start with a lesser rating do to field size etc.
Listed races was also started with the 110 rating 2yo's started out with 100 ratings and I worked my way down from the top rated to the bottom its was pointless starting halfway as there weren't big enough fields.

Like I said bare with me if you think I was a bit harsh or even Not harsh  enough let me know the Handicaps for the flat should be up after the final results Wednesday are out Jamie will put these into tom after Wednesday Results.
