Post Re: Season 16 Trainers Post Race Discussion and Thoughts
Week 2 was a real learning experience for me. What did I learn? Well 95% of my stable is utter rubbish! (which I sort of knew would be the case coming in to this first season).

Have two horses who have a bit about them, one on the flat and one chaser.

Fighting Edge - I still believe has a genuine chance at the places in the Derby although 10th this week might not indicate that. Had the run of the race and looked a winner but then not sure what happened! Maybe the ground could have been firmer, so hopefully he gets that at Epsom.

Argyle Star - a last minute addition to my NH stable. She was trialing a few lengths better than anything else I had so I rushed her in just before the deadline. And she has rewarded me with my first ever place result in the league - albeit 9 lengths behind the winner! Could be an each way bet for the National, although as a 6yo she's probably still a bit immature.

As for the rest, they are just there for the experience now (theirs and mine), but I've already learnt a lot and am applying that to my preparations for next season.

As always a big thanks to everyone that makes this happen and congratulations to all the winners.

Good start to Week 3. Only the three runners on day one, however the string now seems to be at competitive marks so should be getting closer to that first win

Cactus Jack (3rd) - Plugged on well for 3rd from not a great draw, will definitely get more chances and will improve back up to a mile.

Dancing Moon (5th) - Solid enough run, probably showed that 1m4f is in the radar, but happy with the run.

Disco Heaven (10th) - Was to be expected on a trip too short with the wrong ground for him. Was surprised he still hung around close to the pack.

Think the general consensus is that there will be another one as SO8 definitely seems a fair way off

Another day where I've been better over the jumps than on the flat. Think my flat team needed more attention than I thought.

Jurado Pudding looking like he was worth that extra season breeding only 10 horses. He's the only one who made the team, an I can nver breed from him, but he looks like he'll be very competitive over 1m4 in strongly run races

Casa Grande Smiles winning well over the hurdles an qualifying for the pertemps which was always her aim. Would have preferred a staying on 4th mind you :)

San Pedro Earner done well winning a Handicap. Feel he could be a contender in the bigger races coming up over 2m4 chase

Sierra Vista Fair another winner of a 2.5m Chase. Probably my strongest horses this year, so hoping for a big run from someone in the Ryanair. All of them struggle a little in jumping consistency though.

Another big run from San Pedro cartel too over 3m. Finished 2nd now in 2 decent races staying on. I thought John was mad to have him in the Gold Cup betting as he was uploaded as a 3m horse only. I've gone back over my trials an he actually would have made my team over 3m2 too. So could run a decent race in the Gold Cup (Spoiler, he wont win it obviously, but can see a decent race in him)

And back to earth with the vagaries of the racekit…… blank on the NH, not panic mode yet, but some clear weakness in my 2.4m chasers is evident, work to be done. Can make some ground excuses but not many.

Single win on the flat with one I really fancied, lot of no shows too, though a fair amount of ground against.

Congratulations on the 1000 win, bred her to within an inch of her life :)

Roll on tomorrow……

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place , im going away for 2 weeks but when I comeback do I continue my new flat game or get back to my chasers.

I'm the same now. I'm still currently playing my hurdles game. But James an Josh have given me something to aim at now on the flat, so I half want to go back to those games. I have a feeling I've maxed out stats for my flat games now as they are all from the very original game I started playing in SO7, an at the start I wasn't overly concentrating on stats, so I've limited what I can get. I've scoured every game since an can't improve on the stats I already have in any game horse

Yay! My first win and from an unexpected source, but I will gladly take it. Ground didn't suit but it didn't seem to matter. Looking forward to see what she can do in the upcoming weeks.

It seems my flat team aren't too far off the mark, most are within a few lengths of the winner, but with the class of some of these fields it still means I'm only just breaking top ten. My NH team seem to be much further adrift with the exception of one horse, but that was to be expected. Hoping to improve on that for next season.

Great commentary as always and thanks to everyone who has helped me get to this point.

Cheers Paul

Well done to Scrudley, James Shea on their milestones, well done Paul on your first win and all other winners and placers. Looking like a good week for me, another 2 in the placings and a winner finally, with potentially more expected on day three.

Easter Sunday (1st) - Thought top weight might be a bit much but relished the step up in trip and conditions. Will be most likely heading to Chester next week.

Zoro (2nd) - Everything went wrong, poor draw, held back, 7 wide on the bend, yet still only got done up near the post, this was probably his shot to win but there may be more chances.

Marie Curie (3rd) - Exceptional run, went too quick though and ran out of steam, everything looked primed for a big run. Lucky Moon (Unpl) was never going to give 15lb to Marie, but finished further away than I expected.

Rose Of Lancaster & Mastermind (Unpl) - Mastermind once again ran a good race, with 6f not quite suiting, I'm excited about his chances back at 5f. Rose Of Lancaster needs a 0-70/0-80 to have any chance.

The Predator (Unpl) - 7f was always too far, however was close enough only a few lengths away.

Another good day on the Jumps for me with 4 winners, making it 7 so far this week. 2 on the flat so making little bits of progress there too

Flat
Jixi Speedster - very unlucky the week before in the group1 5f race, makes up for it this week picking up the group3

Ithaca Anna - Big run first run over 6, always likely to improve to 7f. Expect her to be up there in the main races now

Jumps

Hot Springs Well - won very well in the Novice hurdle over 2m5. Think he needs soft for 2m5, or better ground for 3m. Could pick up a few throughout the season

Little Rock Hood was 2nd in a grade 1 too. Massive run, likely to have won but for a terrible jump at the last. Could be in contention for the King George which he was uploaded for

El Centro Barbie - Uploaded specifically for the Welsh National, may end up too high in the weights though now. 1,2 here too with Hot Springs Winds who has the same profile

Sierra Vista Cheese - Anyone on Discord will know how good I thought this horse was. Staying on 2nd in his first 2 races, he really kicked on here an won very well.

El Centro rated - 2m4 chase grade 2 winner. definitely have a strong hand over this distance now.

Thanks to Mart Jim, an Gray for the comms as always

Middling day for me with 2 on each code. Very impressed with Dubious Debbie battling back again in the closing stages for her second win. The Widow franked her gold cup aspirations with a solid run but will be suited by further…… you run for show but you jump for dough Vinny :)
