Post Calamity & Uproar after R23 Wolferton Handicap
There was great calamity on the 2nd day of the Royal Ascot carnival after race 23 in the Wolferton Handicap near the winner’s enclosure where fuming trainer John Scatters was deeply troubled with the upset defeat of his horse Gunsynd.
The heavily backed favorite was beaten in the last ¼ furlong by very good horse Magic Maker trained by KevconF.
There were screams of “he stopped riding”, “he stopped riding” from the large crowd of punters around the enclosure but John Scatters was heard screaming the loudest.
“After closely watching the race you can see the jockey stop riding just before the post” one angry punter said.
When John Scatters was confronted by reporters shortly afterwards he didn’t want to name any individuals in case of being sued but generalized by saying, “there are certain shady characters in the bookmaking industry here in Great Britten and believe it is corrupt and there needs to be a Royal Commission into the bookmaking industry.
I believe my horse was pulled!
Indeed Gunsynd has been the most heavily backed horse at the carnival so far and it would have been financial ruin for some in the racing industry if it had got up.
John Scatters went on to say that he had been advised about rumors concerning his horse several days before the race and increased security just in case it was got at.
He said “I even slept with the horse a few nights just to ease my mind.
But it seems I have been outwitted as they got the jockey instead.”
Jockey M Lane has been banned from racing for 2 years.
John Scatters who could not shut his mouth went on to say a few days later, “there is a certain individual from a certain bookmaking firm who was seen this morning being chauffeured in a brand new Rolls Royce. The day before he was driving a mini. You connect the dots.”
