Post 10 Furlongs Dirt
I noticed this season there was a shortage of big dirt races in the league for older horses.

Would the scheduler consider adding the 10 furlong Pacific Classic Stakes to week 9 or 10.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Classic_Stakes

It is at the California dirt track in August and would take 18 horses.

The purse is $1m dollars, so could be £800,000 pounds.

Would the scheduler consider adding the 10 furlong Hollywood Gold Cup stakes to be added to week 4.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywood_Gold_Cup_Stakes

It is at Hollywood dirt track in May and would take 18 horses. The Preakness is on that week, so it could be for the older horses 4+.

Purse is $300,000 dollars, so could be £250,000 pounds.

Any chance of the Pacific Classic Stakes this season?

Recent winners include Maximum Security, Accelerate, Beholder and California Chrome. It is a big race to be missing from the schedule.

There are already 10f G1 races in those weeks. Races added to the flat schedule have mainly been handicaps and a proper campeign for 14f plus horses. Having 2 10f G1s in same week when there are a lack of handicaps doesn't make sense

There are two G1 10f's in week 2. The top turf horses could go to the Juddmonte, the top dirt horses to the Pacific Classic. It could replace one of the four 9/10f handicaps that week. Also it gives lessor trainers a better chance of a G1 win if there are two races in a week.

Week Race Name Course Purse Age Sex Grade Distance
9 4 Juddmonte International York 1000000 3+ Open Group 1 10
9 9 Winter Hill Stakes Windsor 60000 3+ Open Group 3 10
9 11 Gray Handicap Windsor 30000 3+ Open 0-85 9
9 27 Betfred The Bonus King Handicap Chepstow 30000 3+ Open 0-90 10
9 32 William Hill Mile Championship Leg 3 Kempton Park 20000 3+ Open 0-85 9
9 40 Baden Baden Stakes Baden Baden 40000 3+ Open 0-100 10

Post Re: 10 Furlongs Dirt
The only race it could replace is the group 3 Winter Hill Stakes. Although a group 3 would give smaller trainers more chance of success because of the penalties horses need to carry. In addition the race is at Windsor and this is one of the 8 UK courses without a draw bias in the game. I have tried to move as many races to courses without draw bias as possible. So in effect it would be moving a race on a course with no draw bias to a course with draw bias. Handicaps need to stay as the issue last season was lack of handicaps over certain distances.

I can see the reason for another dirt race. And I can do it if there is enough support to replace the group 3 with a group 1 on dirt.

Just out of interest. These are the uk courses without draw bias in the game Chepstow, Bath, Warwick, Haydock, Newmarket, Windsor, Redcar and Yarmouth. Baden Baden also has no draw bias. If the horses are drawn wide on these courses they often win and have done a number of tests to verify this.

I'm new to this so probably don't have a valuable opinion on it but i'd be happy to see the G1 dirt added to keep US race fans happy with the schedule

Agree more dirt races are needed generally at the higher tier since there are likely a number playing US and Australian games. I personally would have argued do we really need two 0-85 handicaps in the same week?

Yes we do need both. They both got split as well last season so have added a 10f handicap to alleviate the pressure. The only race that can go is the G3

The dirt tracks in Australia are very lowly rated bush tracks and picnic meetings in the middle of nowhere.....and I really mean nowhere.
Understandable for American horse racing fans looking for other well rated dirt races outside of the triple crown.

U can't say that, Alice Springs - Darwin- Broom. The problem with the US races are the courses. There should be more dirt races but the courses are crap.

The American tracks aren't designed for having large field numbers but nevertheless swapping the G3 for the american dirt G1 does makes sense unless someone has any strong objections

Out of those three tracks - Darwin is the highest rated but in the grand scheme of Australian racing it's regional at best. Alice and Broome attract cast off horses that can't win on country turf tracks - Darwin is slightly better - they usually attract country class horses looking for a pay day sting during the Darwin Racing Carnival.
The racing on all those tracks is of low standard and not worth putting in the league.
Darwin Cup results 2020 - https://www.racenet.com.au/horse-racing ... up-race-12
It's a Hcp race - the winner pocketing approx' 30k pounds.
