Post Schedule issues to sort out next season
I have made this thread so people can post constructive suggestions for improvements to the schedule for next season.

It has been noted at the lack of races for horses rated over 100 from week 1 in weeks 2, 3 or 4 over certain distances ( 6f and 2yo ). If you struggling to find entries for your horses can you post below so improvements can be made next season thanks.

The same applies to lower rated horses. If you struggling for entries or races are very oversubscribed post below

Also the lack of novice races in NH has been noted

Post for both NH and Flat

I would be very happy to get comments from smaller trainers as I don't have many lower rated horses so it's very difficult to see any problems myself

Hey Leon

Great idea to gather thoughts on this through the season, will really help with continuous improvement of the schedule year on year.

For me, I noticed a lack of staying hurdles for novices on the NH, thankfully we were able to make one a novice in week 2 but there's still a bit of imbalance there; 4 or 5 to 1 ratio of staying open hurdles to novice ones.

On flat, I definitely think that the handicapping is perhaps out of kilter with the schedule. A lot of horses placing 7/8th in maidens for me are rated 100 and so are already stuck between being unable to enter handicaps and being some way off group level - and entering them in group level makes it even harder to get into a handicap.

The two horse per race entry does help somewhat though ;)

Week 3 observations:

Roaring Hawk - 10f - 2yo - Won her last race, so can't enter the maiden race. Therefore non runner this week

Dazzy Bally and Happy Hawk - 14f - 3yo's - No races for these at 13-15f, so trying my luck in the 16 furlong handicap. Doubtful if they will stay.

Sublime Choker - 8f - 2yo - No mile races, so trying his luck at 7f

Driving Viper - 5f - 2yo - Has just scraped an entry, will be top weight in the 0-100 handicap, nowhere else to go

There also seems to be a shortage of 12f races that a 3yo non maiden can enter.

Some 7f+ races for 2yo. After week1 if you win a maiden there isn't anything till week 6.

Maybe a listed and a G3 would be nice. But I know these types of races don't really come into effect till mid late season.

I'd like to see a graded race over 4 miles, its the only distance over jumps or on the flat that doesn't have a big race to aim for.

You probably want to look at uploading a 10f 2yo in the upload window. Probably going to remove all 10f and 9f 2yo races before the upload window to reflect reality and replace them with shorter 2yo races as they getting oversubscribed. Ther aren't races that far for 2yos early in the season. The 10f 2yos should be horses who come in at the upload window

Thanks. Maybe not. Could possibly replace with another distance handicap next season

Week 4 Nh R18 and 33 both similar - we could do with a longer hurdle that is open to higher rated or just a maiden race open for all maidens.

More love for graded 3.4m - 4m chasers, there is nothing much from week 4 to week 10 for any that have a rating of 140+ ish. Both my national horses now have to wait until chelts.

Agree with this. My best long distance won a maiden in week 1. I had to put her in a race that were too short for her in week 2 just so she could get some runs before Grand National. She did get a run in week 3 that was closer to her best distance.

This could be temporarily fixed by increasing the max rating on some of the staying races. For eg, I have a horse who returned from last season rated 160 having won at 4m 1f and 4m 2f and 3rd in the national. She has been eligible to run in 1 race this season. The only staying handicap open to 160 rated horses. She's rated 149 now after some runs over too short but still the next race she is eligible for is the 36f G1 in week 10.

Between now and then we have:

Week 6
30f 0-100
33f 0-130

Week 7
29f 0-120
32f 0-130
30f 0-130

Week 8
32f 0-140
32f 0-100

Week 9
36f 0-140

There are generally cut offs at 130 & 140. Surely these could be 150 or 160 max rating, especially as some are qualifiers.

Why is the Jersey stakes a 0-110 handicap at Royal Ascot next week? Should be a Group 3 right?
