Slightly off topic but if you have lost data on a computer, it is possible to recover the lost data. There are a few free utilities that can help. One of which is

There is a mac and pc version.

Thanks everyone for your advice and help! I’ll have a good search over the weekend but if lordedaws one is probably the best for the price I’ll more than likely go for it! I’ll give that utility a go too Jim, thank you!

The model Lordedaw suggests is a business laptop and the gpu has a benchmark score of about 1900 so while it might allow you to play SO7 now, if Mark decides to improve the graphics in any future version of the series you would be screwed. If I was in your shoes I would be having a look at the Acer Nitro laptops from the same store available from £629.

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc ... teria.html

All 3 have Nvidia GTX 1650 graphics cards (benchmark approx 7000) which will give you much better gaming performance, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

You could always buy an external drive for data or use cloud storage if 256GB is not enough.

Thanks guys! Aye, I was looking at the Acer nitro ones, but (probably a stupid question) it needs to be like a ‘normal’ laptop aswell as playing some games. Will it be fine for stuff like Microsoft word etc aswell?

That's the stuff only u can work out, u need to look those things up. Normally gaming laptops are set up more for gaming. For gaming that Acer is the one i'd get.

I think that to buy a good gaming laptop you could be looking at closer to £1000.

My gaming laptop runs all the usual stuff like Micosoft Office with no problem.

Is it definately a laptop you want? There are good desktop options out there for less money.

You need as least 500GB of storage and if you rely on the cloud, what happens if the internet goes down. External hard drives are okay for backup but you can't run games off them.

If you want real performance when running games and want to be futureproof spend your whole budget.

You can go to specialist gaming websites and contact their support people, explain your needs, mention some of the things that have been brought up on the forum and see what they come up with.

I went to Overclockers and found these

I was looking at desktops but money for space in Edinburgh doesn’t get you far  would a 2in1 computer work? I was looking at Aspire C24 but don’t think it had a dedicated graphics card. The only game I play on my laptop is SO as have the ps5 and the switch so doesn’t need to be the bees knees of graphics etc as long as it’s playable, I was playing it on my 5 year old MacBook Air, it would sometimes moan about the fps but overall played well and wasn’t stally. Sorry for all the questions, I’d normally go into a shop and ask them all this stuff but due to covid none are open so trying to figure it out over the internet myself isn’t the best  I appreciate all the help yous have been giving me though!

Hi,

The Aspire C24 you mention doesn't come with a dedicated graphics card; it only has integrated graphics.

Like others have said, something like the Acer Nitro that comes with a dedicated 1650 graphics card would be a better option.

I know it only has 256 GB of internal SSD Storage, but you can buy external portable SSD's like the one below:

https://www.cclonline.com/product/29016 ... -/BAK8044/

That give you fair read and write performance, and are more shock resistant if you are using on the 'go' (well when we can actually go somewhere).

Depending on how much space you have (my desktop and monitor is on my chest of draws) have a look at Stormforce I have put the link below. They are the manufacturer of my desktop. The systems come with a 3 year collect and repair warranty and they have a few within your budget.

https://www.stormforcegaming.co.uk/

https://www.stormforcegaming.co.uk/prod ... d-monitor/

They also have towers without the monitors. You can also upgrade your system. Mine originally was a Ryzen 3 3200g, 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB Hard Drive, I had the system upgraded to include a 480GB SSD and a Nvidia GTX 1650.

Regards,
Yasmin
