Do trainers actually target these races? What is the point?
IRL these races are mainly for immature staying horses.
Seems like it's just for trainers to hide from the handicapper. Dirty!

I don’t target these races no, but once I have trialled my 2m hurdlers, I run the same horses over the NHF, and I then factor this into team selection. I then only enter these races when there is no better alternative race, and I fancy said horses are competent at them. ‘Valkyrie’ who has entered two is one such horse ultimately targeted at the Trull House at Cheltenham, but it’s rare for there to be multiple graded novice 2m hurdle races so the NHF offer alternative race options and yes a way to have a handicapper for a few weeks whilst I wait for the later season NH races. But I am open about it, so if she romps away with her first graded race I am sure the handicappers will catch up. I do it most seasons, for me it’s just good stable management.
