Post Which Races are Handicap Races?
Hi Colm,

I've just checked the the UK season 11 schedule and noticed there is no indication if any of the listed or group races are handicaps?

I need to know if they are as this will affect my placing of horses.

Thanks

Hi Scatters,

None of the listed or group races in the UK are handicaps. They are equal weight races, allowing for age and gender penalties.

All handicaps are marked 0-80, etc.

Only in the NHC and USRA are there graded handicaps.

Hope that helps..

Cheers..

Colm

In Australia where I’m from, the Caulfield cup, Doncaster Handicap, Melbourne Cup to name a few, are handicaps. Will this be the case for the league?

Are there others i.e. French, German races etc as I am unfamiliar with most overseas races?

Cheers

They used to be handicaps in seasons gone by, but they were converted to equal weights because of handicap fiddling and arguments that ensued from that.

With the new handicap project in place, I don't see why we can't convert them back. One thing to note, with players having looked at the schedule and organising their horses appropriately, some might feel it unfair to to convert them this season, if it's short notice.

They are a few weeks away, so we have time to discuss it and sort out any eligibility criterea.

Colm, I'm happy to leave them as non handicaps. Fine with me.

More pressing problem at the moment (and we should be sorting that out asap)is being able to race your horses in maidens and non graded handicaps and not being squeezed out.

Cheers.
