Post UK Season 12 Week 02 Race 18 Masaka Stakes
UK Season 12 Week 02 Race 18 Masaka Stakes

Kempton 1600m

Starting from the 1600m at Kempton sees the race starting with a 650m back straight in which horses can jostle for position before the sweeping turn of 300m and then making a run 600m down the home straight. Runners caught wide 4 deep or more will give ground away to the inside runners and this could figure in the finish if the horses are evenly matched. So inside barriers are preferred if you are a handy horse.

Bayeaux Tango B13 (P Hogan)
Last start 4th to Speedito at this distance and found that colt a little too strong. Races handy but should struggle as it will run 5 or 6 deep to the turn. Needs luck from a wide gate. Outside chance.

Best In Class B1 (bibobaggio)
Last start strong 4th to New Approach over 1800m racing in a midfield position. Ran hard and was up there with the leaders till about 100m out where the first 2 placers showed their class and started to pull away. Will appreciate coming back in distance. In the calculations.

Corenne B3 (Hackett)
Last start 3rd to Eurythmic at this distance when travelled midfield and caught 5 and 6 wide throughout. Inside barrier will see it on the fence and if it gets clear running on the inside is more than capable upsetting. Must consider.

Dancing Soul B10 (nickdriver)
Last start encouraging 9th beaten by smart winner in New Approach in very good time over 1800m. Raced midfield and wasn’t far away keeping up with the contenders till last little bit when it was blocked. Consider

Desert Mist B7 (Hemz123)
Last start 4th to Royal Engagement starting from a wider gate and found the fence racing handy over 1400m. Couldn’t quite go with Royal Engagement and faded in straight. Stepping up in distance and meets that horse here again. Outside chance.

Diamonds In Olympia B6 (Sabelle)
Last start 3rd to smart colt Speedito with a solid run and didn’t shirk its task not being to far away from the winner. Races handy and will be in a good position on the turn from barrier 6. Good chance.

Eurythmic B11 (scatters)
Won last start from barrier 10(19) over 1600m and was too strong for that company winning by 1 ½ lengths. Wide barrier only concern but expect to get a good position with the 650m back straight. Races handy. One of the favourites.

Frequency B4 (R Coats)
Last start 9th to Speedito was a good effort considering it was one of the widest runners. Races back and with an good draw will be nearer the fence. Chance.

Kebreya Baby B9 (Steven)
Last start 8th to Royal Engagement over 1400m racing near fence and midfield. Met hot company that day and faded in home straight. Outsider.

Lemonade B8 (Thunderspark)
First start here in tuff company. Prefer to wait and see. Outsider.

Marching Queen B12 (Ryan)
Last start 5th to Speedito but great effort to be only 1 ¼ lengths away as it started from outside gate and travelled 5 and 6 deep throughout. Races back. Will be there abouts again.

Royal Engagement B5 (D Robertson)
Boom filly that smashed the track record at Linfield with her last start win over 1400m. Likes to race handy and the way it finished its race last start stepping up in distance should not be a problem. One of the favourites.

Shiver B2 (DodgyDave)
First start here so no form to go on. Prefer to wait and see.

Tips
A Few chances here with 5 runners who like to race handy. Eurythmic being the widest which leaves her trapped 5 deep at the turn and this could be telling in the end. So is a query from gate 11 leaving her vulnerable. Royal Engagement is a class filly and should run close to the fence saving ground on the turn. If she can run 1600m which I’m sure she can she will be hard to beat.

1st Royal Engagement 2nd Eurythmic 3rd Corenne
Others not far away - Dancing Soul, Frequency, Best In Class & Diamonds In Olympia.

I would throw Marching Queen in to others not far away category.

I like this horse, i think she is a potential 1000 guineas runner. Your right up on her debut run is spot on John - she ran a cracker to be beaten by such a small distance when racing so wide and being pushed even further wide racing for home. She showed she has a great turn of foot. I think on firm ground over a straight mile shed show it to even greater effect, and she has never trialled that great round a bend.

When nominating her for the race i predicted a very similar sort of run to week 1, but she will improve once the firm turf comes for her.
